Gothenburg, Sweden-based Meela, a mental health and well-being platform, announced on Monday, that it has secured €2.6M in a seed round funding led by a new investor — Dutch VC Peak.
Existing investors, including The Inner Foundation, Unconventional Ventures, and Calm/Storm, participated in the funding round.
Meela: Matchmaking platform for mental health
Founded by Tiffany Boswell, a licensed psychologist, Meela is a research-based matchmaking platform that helps people find the right psychologist and therapy method.
“Meela needs to exist in the world. I come into this space as a patient myself. I know what it feels like to meet the wrong therapist for you. So for me, it feels important, and urgent to make sure we can help as many people as possible” says Tiffany Boswell, Founder & CEO
Unlike the traditional method, which focuses only on accessibility, the Swedish company’s platform uses clinical metrics to calculate compatibility between client and therapist.
This tool calculates 43 metrics, informed by clinical research and their own patient and therapist data. These metrics encompass psychological needs, symptoms, alliance, attachment style, and personal preferences.
With over 120 therapy treatments in 22 languages, Meela provides easily accessible in-person and digital therapy.
By analysing therapists’ treatment outcomes, Meela is assembling an extensive database of clinical competencies and areas for improvement, fueling continuous refinement of their matching technique.
From the therapists’ perspective, real-time tracking of clinical data and patient feedback fosters ongoing learning about effective therapeutic methods and data-driven upskilling insights.
Expanding to the B2B segment
The Swedish company is also planning to introduce a subscription-based model for therapists, providing access to a patient feedback loop.
By leveraging technology and feedback mechanisms, this data-driven approach enhances the quality of care and delivers value to therapists and patients, claims the company.
The company is also planning for expansion into the B2B market. By offering employers customised B2B solutions, Meela aims to address the pressing need for mental health support in the workplace.
“Our alignment with Meela was evident in their commitment to revolutionising mental health support. Their team’s dedication and innovative approach strongly resonated with our focus on women’s well-being and the broader landscape of mental health,” says Nora Bavey, General Partner of Unconventional Venture.
