Zurich-based NetFabric, an ETH Zurich spin-off developing a next-gen network observability platform, announced that it secured $2.2M (approximately €2M) in a pre-seed round of funding led by Founderful and Playfair Capital.
This investment supports NetFabric’s goal of transforming network observability and monitoring.
According to a statement from the startup, the network monitoring industry faces ongoing challenges, with downtime being a critical issue for enterprises. Network outages result in significant financial losses, such as Amazon’s $34M loss from one hour of downtime in 2021.
Downtime also disrupts operations, requires extensive troubleshooting by skilled engineers, and harms customer trust.
“Current monitoring tools only provide basic insights into the complex inner workings of networks,” says Prof. Laurent Vanbever, co-founder and Chief Scientist of NetFabric. “They often rely on fragmented data sources, leading to false positives and inadequate problem resolution. Consequently, these tools frequently fail to deliver timely and accurate insights into network issues.”
These limitations necessitate extensive manual troubleshooting, prolonging downtime and increasing operational inefficiencies.
Transforming network monitoring
NetFabric aims to transform network observability with a novel approach that merges diverse network data sources (such as routing information, forwarding tables, device configurations, or logs) into a unified knowledge base, delivering actionable intelligence and a complete understanding of network issues.
This solution addresses two key challenges:
- It manages the diversity of real-world networks, which vary in devices, protocols, and architecture, by integrating large language models (LLMs) to handle non-standard data sources and user queries.
- It employs advanced mathematical models to complement LLMs, leveraging a deep understanding of protocol logic to generate valuable insights and explain network problems and resolutions.
NetFabric’s dual approach offers a complete view of large, complex networks by integrating all relevant data sources and providing precise alerts when issues arise. Organisations can mitigate downtime risks and maintain operational continuity by minimising false-positive alerts and optimising resource allocation.
Benjamin Bichsel, co-founder and CEO of NetFabric, says, “Our mission is to empower enterprises with a comprehensive understanding of their networks. By eliminating the guesswork in network troubleshooting, we enable businesses to redirect engineering resources towards innovation and growth.”
NetFabric was founded in 2024. Its founding team comprises Prof. Laurent Vanbever (Chief Scientist Officer), Dr. Benjamin Bichsel (CEO), Dr. Tobias Bühler (CTO), Marlene Brakhane (COO), and Boris Paskalev (co-founding advisor and investor).
Capital utilisation
The funds will accelerate the development of NetFabric’s network observability platform, which will meet the needs of the $197B industry reliant on robust network performance.
NetFabric is also expanding its team and seeking candidates for key roles while inviting potential design partners to collaborate.
