German ‘bed-in-a-box’ retailer Emma Mattress has been named as Europe’s fastest growing startup at the Tech5 Awards hosted by TNW and Adyen at the TNW Conference in Amsterdam.
Emma Mattress was founded in 2015 in Frankfurt with the aim to bring more fairness and transparency into the mattress industry, which has traditionally been unnecessarily complex with countless options. The company sold more than 120,000 mattresses in its first two years and has since expanded to France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
Max Laarmann, founder of Emma Mattress stated: “ We are very proud that Emma Mattress is officially the fastest growing start-up in Europe with strong sales growth and expansion into 14 European countries. We have developed a great product that not only simplifies the selection process but which is helping people get their best night’s sleep.”
The scaleup’s revenue growth over the past two years was notable enough to win the Tech5 competition ahead of Aircall from France, Xceed from Spain, Picnic from the Netherlands, Mentimeter in Sweden, and Luno in the UK, who had been recognized as the fastest growing startups in their respective countries. The average growth of the 2018 country winners is over 6300%.
This year marks the fifth edition of Tech5, which featured thriving European scaleups such as Transferwise, Delivery Hero, Cabify, Foodpanda, and iZettle. Tech5 alumni finalists collectively raised over €10B in funding over the last five years.
