Dutch-based The Student Hotel, a chain of European hotels and student accommodation, announced on Wednesday, August 31, that it is partnering with Germany-based HR software company Personio to support its rapid international growth by increasing the efficiency of its HR processes.
Founded in 2006 by Scottish-Dutch entrepreneur Charlie MacGregor, The Student Hotel has expanded into a world-renowned hospitality brand with 15 hotels in 12 European cities, including Amsterdam, Delft, Eindhoven, Groningen, Rotterdam, Maastricht, Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Florence, and Bologna.
The company now employs 650 people and its expansion is ongoing. Owing to seasonal impacts and peaks, among other things, the hotel business has a lot of variable employment contracts.
Personio will assist in making these procedures as efficient as feasible within the complicated HR environment.
Personio’s HR system for growth and expansion
The Student Hotel says that its focus on Europe and its rapid succession of investments, such as a second Series E funding in June 2022, were a few of the reasons for choosing Personio.
Jurgen van den Bragt, Financial System Manager at The Student Hotel, says “This is a signal that people have confidence in Personio’s business model, allowing them to continue to grow and develop the platform at the same pace as we do. That means it is an HR system for the long term.”
The Student Hotel – Personio Integration
The Student Hotel intends to automate as many manual operations and procedures as possible in order to boost productivity, in addition to optimising and harmonising HR across the business. Personio’s features include the ability to use People Workflow Automation to automate standard HR operations, as well as connectors with over 100 third-party solutions.
Personio and the Greenhouse’s Applicant Tracking System (ATS) are already connected at the Student Hotel. In order to safeguard system access, a link to Microsoft Azure for single sign-on has also been created.

The first location went operational in May 2022 after a quick implementation, and all locations were migrated to Personio by the end of July. The information for 400 workers is now in the system, and the rest will be added shortly, says the company.
