Eindhoven-based TracXon, a deep tech spin-off from TNO, has raised €4.75M in seed funding.

The round was led by DeepTechXL, with participation from Invest-NL and the Brabant Development Agency (BOM).

The announcement comes six months after TNO joined forces with Techleap and Invest-NL to accelerate tech-related innovations, support startup growth, and enhance competitiveness.

TracXon is using the seed investment to build unique, patented equipment.

This will help produce multi-layer and double-sided High-Performance Electronics (HPE), starting with the first Roll-to-Roll (R2R) VIA Printer.

This printer connects circuit layers on both sides of a substrate roll, making electronics production more sustainable.

The R2R VIA Printer is expected to be available by mid-2027.

Hans Boumans, director of TNO Ventures, says, “We are proud of this achievement. TracXon is a good example of how TNO innovations can grow into impactful companies. TNO invests in technologies that create a better world, and TracXon contributes directly to a more sustainable future by fundamentally changing how electronics are produced.”

Last year, the company was announced as one of the winners in the 10th edition of the Gerard & Anton Awards

TracXon: Industrialisation of hybrid printed electronics

Founded in 2022, TracXon has transitioned from laboratory research to industrial production of High-Performance Electronics (HPE).

Led by Ashok Sridhar, their technology reduces carbon footprint by five times and material usage by twelve times, making it a sustainable alternative to traditional printed circuit boards (PCBs).

It’s worth noting that PCBs are one of the most polluting components in electronics.

This supports the circular economy and contributes to a more sustainable digital industry.

In three years, the company claims to have helped over 20 customers from 10 countries co-develop and produce HPE products.

The company uses advanced design expertise and roll-to-roll (R2R) production methods.

Their products range from compact industrial devices and portable Internet of Things (IoT) gadgets to larger applications, including LED films for displays and lighting.

Ashok Sridhar, co-founder and CEO, says, “TracXon is bringing about a fundamental change in electronics manufacturing. From traditional and polluting to efficient and sustainable. This investment round brings us closer to our goal of replacing at least 10% of PCBs with our HPE technology by 2033. This represents approximately €15 billion worth of circuits per year. Our technology is a huge step towards ‘ubiquitous electronics’ – electronics that are all around us – in a socially responsible way.”
