The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that it has chosen Australian dual-use technology company Castlepoint Systems to safeguard sensitive information using artificial intelligence.
Known for its Explainable AI technology, Castlepoint offers an automated, real-time approach to data control that aims to dramatically reduce the risk of human error, especially when handling classified or sensitive files.

Castlepoint was selected by the MoD via a competitive tender process, which assessed global solutions for data labelling.
It will deliver the solution in partnership with Birmingham-based Certes IT Solutions, which provides implementation and project management personnel.
Rachael Greaves, CEO of Castlepoint Systems, says, “Securing this contract with the Ministry of Defence as our first UK account is a key milestone for Castlepoint, underscoring the critical importance of sophisticated data control for any organisation, not just national security. The MoD faces a complex challenge in managing vast and sensitive datasets in the knowledge that even a single case of data leak or loss can be catastrophic. I’m pleased that after undertaking a very thorough global search, Castlepoint was selected by MoD as the best solution to solve this problem.”
This investment shows the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to improving data protection.
The 2022 Afghan data breach highlighted the risks of human error when a spreadsheet with personal details of nearly 19,000 individuals was accidentally sent through insecure channels, putting them at risk from the Taliban.
According to the UK MoD, AI-powered data labelling can help prevent these mistakes by automatically classifying sensitive information correctly.
Castlepoint Systems: AI-powered information provider of governance & compliance solutions
Led by Rachael Greaves, Castlepoint Systems is a provider of AI-powered information governance and compliance solutions.
Its platform applies proprietary Explainable AI to manage all data, structured and unstructured, across entire enterprise environments, enabling automated records management, eDiscovery, privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance without changing existing systems or requiring complex integration.
Trusted by government, defence, healthcare, and enterprise organisations globally, Castlepoint delivers in-place, scalable oversight that reduces risk, ensures transparency, and supports Ethical AI governance.
The company monitors documents and emails within an organisation’s network using advanced AI to understand their content and context.
It automatically suggests security markings to protect sensitive information from the moment it is created. These suggestions are linked to specific matches and tailored to the organisation’s risk profile.
This approach makes the classification process clear, understandable, and contestable, meeting high standards of Ethical AI.
Castlepoint can handle legacy records that have missing or outdated labels.
This means it can properly classify documents, identify any over- or under-classification issues, and continuously review documents as their content changes to keep security markings accurate.
“Castlepoint, with Explainable AI and true autoclassification at its core, can increase labelling accuracy and coverage without disrupting the essential work of MoD personnel. We are a trusted technology provider for public-sector organisations and enterprises in Australia and New Zealand, and having now established our global headquarters in London, we look forward to delivering our proven solutions to many more organisations in the UK,” adds Greaves.
