Last update:

Gradient Labs, a London-based AI startup founded in mid-2023, has secured £2.8M (approximately €3.28M) in a seed round of funding. The startup is building an operating system of AI agents that automate manual, repetitive work.

The investment was led by LocalGlobe and a series of angels and micro funds including Puzzle Ventures (Gloria Baeuerlein), Tom Blomfield, Jonas Templestein, Gideon Valkin, Mike Hudack, Akhil Paul, Declan Kelly, Thilo Konzok, Tristan Thomas and many more.

In a statement, Gradient Labs expressed excitement about the funding milestone. The firm says, “This is a significant milestone for us, and we are super excited about the journey ahead.”

“A big thank you to all investors, design partners, and early employees who have put their trust in us and have joined us in redefining customer support for the years to come. Let’s do it!”

With the funds, Gradient Labs aims to advance its AI-driven solutions and reshape the landscape of customer support and other manual-intensive industries.

Looking to the future, Gradient Labs emphasised that this is only the beginning of their journey. The startup is actively seeking people who are passionate about AI and eager to contribute to the potential of AI in transforming business operations.

An operating system of AI agents

Gradient Labs is starting its journey by tackling customer support automation—a field close to the hearts of its founders who have worked in operations at growing companies.

Scaling while maintaining high quality is challenging, especially in regulated environments where basic question-answering bots fall short. The startup is taking a different approach to AI automation.

Gradient Labs believes scalable and high-quality automation comes from closely supervising, evaluating, and course-correcting AI agents, rather than relying on AI as a mere co-pilot. Its goal is to redefine current practices by providing companies with deep insight, control, and safety in the automated work process.

The company says, “We are building an autonomous AI agent aiming to resolve up to 80 per cent of customer queries (incl. using actions and account data), enabling companies to scale CX with minimal human staff.”

“The product caters to companies that aim to offer exceptional customer support and want a guarantee of good customer outcomes rather than a “best effort” automation.”

As of April 2024, Gradient Labs is collaborating with eight design partners across various sectors, including fintech, insuretech, online marketplaces, food delivery, travel, and crypto.
