Utrecht-based Whoppah, a marketplace for secondhand furniture and art, announced on Wednesday that it has raised €4.7M in a fresh round of funding.
The Dutch company says it will use the funds to achieve profitability next year. The startup also plans to raise a larger round.
“Despite low season challenges and economic uncertainty marked by inflation and contraction, Whoppah has not only persevered but thrived, setting revenue record after record and securing substantial support from our investors,” says Thomas Bunnik, Co-founder & CEO of Whoppah.
Whoppah: Marketplace for second hand design furniture and art
Founded by Thomas Bunnik and Evelien Remmelts in 2019, Whoppah is a marketplace for second hand design furniture and art.
The platform brings together the best design offers from consumers and professional sellers in Europe on one platform, including modern design furniture, vintage classics, and a diversity of art.
The Dutch company says it checks the items thoroughly before publishing the item on the platform, guaranteeing safe trading and offering convenience. With a unique offering of 1,000 professional sellers and thousands of private individuals, Whoppah is already used by over a million users.
“We’re on track to become the largest marketplace for secondhand design & art in Europe with tens of millions in annual sales as millions of people discovered our treasure trove. We’re proud to offer unique, affordable, and stylish furniture that helps to promote sustainability and conscious consumption and we are still at the beginning of a secondhand revolution. With only 2% of all consumer spending in furniture and homeware being secondhand there is still a world to win. Let’s make it happen together,” adds Bunnik.
