Germany-based watttron raises €12M to expand its sustainable packaging solutions

Germany-based watttron, a company that claims to be a leader in digital temperature control systems, announced that it has secured €12M in a Series B round of funding. 

With this funding, watttron aims to transform sustainable packaging solutions and broaden its presence in American and Asian markets.

Investors supporting watttron

The investment was led by the Circular Innovation Fund (CIF) and the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF), signalling a global push for sustainable innovation in packaging.

Long-term partners TGFS Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen, Constancia New Business (CNB), SKion GmbH, and BA Mr. Rico Kleinhempel, along with new investors, are also supporting watttron in its mission to advance sustainability in the packaging industry.

Guillaume Gras, Investment Director at ECBF, says, “watttron’s technology represents a quantum leap in sustainable packaging, drastically cutting carbon emissions by reducing material and energy usage, and enabling the use of monomaterials, which significantly enhances recyclability.”

“Simultaneously enhancing production efficiency and cost-effectiveness, this investment signifies more than financial support; it’s a commitment to pioneering a greener, more efficient future in the packaging industry.”

Changing the manufacturing world

Founded in 2016, watttron develops digital heating systems for the packaging industry. 

The company’s focus is on sustainability drives solutions like cera2seal and cera2heat, enabling efficient processing of sustainable materials in flexible packaging without compromising quality or energy efficiency.

A number of brand owners, including four of the five largest FMCG companies and OEMs such as Coesia, Mespack, and GEA, along with material suppliers like Constantia Flexibles, are embracing digital heating technology with precise temperature control at the individual pixel level.

In early 2022, watttron launched the “Packolution” podcast series in which international stakeholders share their views on packaging. The company also opened a US office to serve its growing North American customer base.
