Alkmaar, the Netherlands-based WePositive.Energy, an energy tech startup, announced that it has received a convertible loan of €350K from Innovatiefonds Noord-Holland.
The Innovation Fund North Holland is an initiative of the Province of North Holland, the University of Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit, Hogeschool van Amsterdam, Amsterdam UMC, and Sanquin.
The Fund supports entrepreneurs in the province of North Holland in financing innovation in the Proof-of-Concept phase by providing convertible loans.
The Innovation Fund North Holland manages two funds – a fund for innovative startups, supported by the RVO, and a fund for academic startups, supported by ERDF.
Ludolf Stavenga, Fund Manager at Innovatiefonds Noord-Holland, says, “WePositive.Energy offers an innovative, scalable solution to one of the biggest challenges in the energy transition in the Province of North Holland: grid congestion. Their approach accelerates the development of a smart energy future and contributes to sustainable innovation with tangible economic and social value.”
The funding will help the Dutch company to develop an AI-driven platform that enables households to jointly use locally generated energy by storing and sharing it through smart energy hubs.
WePositive.Energy: Addressing biggest bottlenecks in the energy transition
Founded by Yanick Slikboer and Dolf Andringa in 2024, WePositive.Energy focuses on addressing one of the bottlenecks in the energy transition: the increasing pressure on the electricity grid due to peak loads.
The Dutch company, in collaboration with TNO, grid operators, and innovative energy startups, among others, is developing an interoperable platform that enables households to share energy locally and make smarter use of their electrical appliances collectively.
The company does this by adding an intelligent coordination layer to the existing grid without requiring major changes to the infrastructure.
The company’s smart energy hubs for residential areas intelligently connect home batteries, charging stations, heat pumps, and solar panels.
This creates a local energy system that allows households to use available sustainable energy more efficiently.
As a result, this contributes to lowering energy costs, reducing CO₂ emissions, and relieving pressure on the electricity grid.
The first rollout will take place in the Netherlands, with the ambition to roll it out further in Europe thereafter.
The company is on a mission to enable one million energy hubs in Europe by 2035.
Yanick Slikboer, CEO of WePositive.Energy says, “This funding is an important milestone for us. It enables us to expand our team, achieve technical proof points, and gather valuable user feedback through pilot projects. This brings us one step closer to the market launch of our platform.”
