Emilie Sobels, the founder of Workmode, is stepping down from her daily leadership role after over ten years.
She will hand over ownership of the female-focused work community to co-founder Stephanie Knoors, effective January 1, 2026.
“I can’t think of a better person to help Workmode to the next phase with her vision,” says Sobels.
Workmode: Community for female professionals
Founded by Emilie Sobels and Stephanie Knoors, Workmode offers co-working spaces specifically for women entrepreneurs in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, and Apeldoorn.
“I started Workmode more than 10 years ago: with a few desks, a lot of coffee and an idea that turned out to be bigger than I could ever have imagined,” says Sobels.
These spaces are designed to support growth and collaboration among female business owners.
In addition to providing workspaces, Workmode fosters a community aimed at empowering women in business.
The Workmode Agency develops campaigns that highlight female role models and work to eliminate barriers.
Workmode also holds the annual Self-Made Summit, an event that focuses on knowledge-sharing, inspiration, and networking for female professionals.
The sixth edition of the Self-Made Summit occurred on May 23, 2025.
Stephanie Knoors on becoming CEO
“As of January 1, 2026, I will take over Workmode in full, a choice we made together and with care. I’m grateful for everything we’ve shared during this time: the opportunities that arose, the lessons we’ve learned, and the trust we have in each other – still,” says Knoors in a LinkedIn post.
Under Knoors’ direction, Workmode will continue to focus on empowering female entrepreneurs through its co-working hubs, community events, and professional development programs.
