Amsterdam-based Youseum, which claims to provide Europe’s biggest offline social media experience, announced that it has raised €3M of growth capital from existing and new private equity and angel investors.
With the raised capital, the startup is looking to expand into Europe and the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa). The social media experience is planning to open its first international locations in Stockholm and Oberhausen.
All about YOU and your social media
Youseum is Amsterdam’s offline social media experience provider. Users can take ‘eye-catching’ photos for Instagram and create unforgettable content for TikTok, solo or with a group.
Its first location opened in 2019 as a pop-up in Amsterdam and has over 35+ ‘unique’ rooms in Amsterdam and Westfield Mall of the Netherlands in Leidschendam. The company says it has now become one of the most sought-after things to do in Amsterdam for visitors and locals alike.
Joep Heusschen, COO and co-founder, says, “We aim to build playgrounds of boundless creativity that invite our visitors to play with social media. Meanwhile, we try to spark a discussion about the role of social media in our day-to-day lives.”
Guests are guided along a 60-75 minute tour (depending on how much content one would like to create!) through the project’s 15 curated spaces. Its rooms are designed to make users’ photos pop, and also to inspire and raise important questions about the world around them.
A regular ticket costs €19.95 while kids between the age of 0-3 years can enter for free. For children between 4-11 years old, they have a discounted ticket of €12.50. Youseum says its tours usually last around 1.5 hours but can go on for as long as the users prefer.
Co-founder and CEO Koen Derks believes while mediums such as Instagram and TikTok might be replaced by new platforms, the concept of social media as an important part in our lives is here to stay.
The new Youseum locations are opening in Westfield Mall of Scandinavia in Stockholm and Westfield CentrO in Oberhausen.
