Netherlands-based GeniusTravel, a platform for budget-conscious travellers, has announced the completion of a €2M funding round. The company will use the investment to develop Genius, an AI-powered app created to find and book complete travel packages.
The funding, provided by investors who wish to remain anonymous, will support the app’s rollout in the Netherlands this year, with plans to expand to other European markets.
In a statement from GeniusTravel, one of the investors mentions, “AI – and generative AI in particular – has proven its value in recent years by simplifying a wide range of manual tasks. I strongly believe in the potential of applying this technology to the travel industry to better, faster, and more easily meet consumer needs. Most people book their holidays online, but many still turn to tour operators for guidance. Genius brings the best of both worlds together through smart technology.”
A one-stop shop for budget-conscious travellers
Entrepreneur Gennie Freen created Genius, an AI-powered travel app, to address challenges in comparing travel platforms, destinations, and prices. Aimed at simplifying trip planning, the app enables users to build complete travel packages, including flights and accommodation, based on personal preferences and budget.
Travellers can communicate their plans by messaging Genius, the AI travel agent, which then curates a personalised set of travel options. “This feature makes finding the most affordable and suitable trip as easy as asking ChatGPT a question,” says Freen.
Additionally, Genius compiles daily travel deals using AI, offering options across different price ranges and categories. These include short trips under €120 per person, including flights and accommodation, weekend getaways, departures within one week, trips to popular destinations, and a daily top 10 deals list.
For those who prefer manual search, the app includes filters that allow users to search by budget, destination, and travel dates. Genius creates full travel packages by mixing and matching flights and accommodations through a partnership with Expedia.
Users receive a tailored list of options with a best-price guarantee. After selecting a trip, travellers can finalise details such as room type and flight, and book directly in the app. GeniusTravel mentions that more filter options, including accommodation features, will be added soon.
After over three years of development and extensive beta testing, Genius is now available on the App Store and Play Store.
