Last update:

Based out of Delft, The Netherlands, Solar Monkey, a solar panel software provider has raised €1 million in funding led by 4impact along with the existing investors.

The funds will be used for the development of new features and international products, team expansion and the international roll-out.

“After having claimed market leadership in The Netherlands within 3 years of operations, it is time to venture abroad and help international solar installers to become more efficient and effective.”

Simplifies solar panel sales!

Solar Monkey was founded in 2015 by Mels van Hoolwerff, Jan Pieter Versluijs and Tino de Bruijn and it is part of the tech incubator, Yes! Delft community. They developed software based on an algorithm that calculates the actual yield of solar panel systems. The distinctive character is in the automatic shadow analysis.

According to the company, the calculation is so accurate that solar panel installers can provide a yield guarantee. Their product, dubbed as, Solar Guarantee – removes an important barrier for roof owners who want to invest in solar panels. Both private consumers and commercial projects obtain more certainty through the revenue guarantee and appropriate monitoring of their system performance.

Basically, Solar Monkey delivers B2B software for the design of solar power systems as well as remote performance monitoring services. This enables installers to remotely design and offer solar power systems. The company already serves hundreds of installers in The Netherlands.

Further, Solar Monkey intends to enter into international solar markets, as part of its mission to accelerate the adoption of solar power.

The software of Solar Monkey analyses the performance of existing systems to guarantee optimum energy yields. The strong focus on ease of use makes the software very effective in the acceleration of the solar panel market.

Started in Belgium upon users request!

This capital round allows us to gain a critical competitive advantage while serving new markets,” says CEO Jan Pieter Versluijs. “We want to deliver maximum value to our new partners and customers, so we invest every penny in improving our product and telling our story.”

Founded by Mels Hoolwerff and Pieter Versluijs, the company has started its operation in Belgium upon user requests and expected to follow the suit in other countries, especially where installers still have to use manual methods to prepare designs and quotations.

Pauline Wink, Managing Partner at 4impact, said:

Solar Monkey is showing enormous traction in the fast-growing market for solar energy. We see the efficiency that they deliver through advanced software with great ease of use. That efficiency helps to speed up the energy transition. The opportunities for the company are huge and we look forward to working with the dedicated team and existing investors to see the company grow both locally and internationally.
