With not many competitors in the queue, the Dutch online supermarket is quite an unexplored category so far. And now an innovative online supermarket startup Picnic is creating waves in the market.
The company which has no stores and follows free home delivery model along with lowest grocery prices is giving sleepless nights to well-established native brands like Albert Heijn and Jumbo.
Almost 3 years old now, started by four founders including Joris Beckers, Frederik Nieuwenhuys, Bas Verheijen and Michiel Muller, the technology startup that has added another feather to its cap.
Recently, Picnic has been honored with the award of the fastest growing technology startup in the Netherlands in 2018. The title was announced during Tech5, an annual competition organised by Amsterdam-based online media publication TNW and leading online payment startup Adyen.
The conference was attended by country ambassador Corinne Vigreux (Founder of TomTom), the top 10 Dutch finalists, and local media. In a company press release, it has been revealed that Picnic was the Dutch company with the highest revenue growth in the past two years.
As stated in the release, the company uses a smart app and a fleet of electric vans to provide groceries to more than 100,000 households in over 35 cities across two countries.
The other finalists in the Netherlands’ top 10 2018 list were Camptoo, Wonderkind, ReSnap, EclecticIQ, Impraise, bloomon, Tiqets, Kiiroo and Otrium.
Moving further, Picnic is all set to compete against the national Tech5 winners from Germany, UK, Spain, France and Sweden for the title of “Fastest growing tech company in Europe.” The winner will be revealed at TNW Conference 2018, which will take place on May 24.
For those who are not aware, Tech5 has been a launchpad for companies including Transferwise, Delivery Hero, Cabify, Foodpanda, and iZettle, with Tech5 alumni finalists raising over €10B in funding altogether over the last five years.
