Amsterdam Academic Angel Fund, a.k.a, 3xA Fund, announced on Monday, September 12, that it is ready to accept new applications. Backed by Vrije Universiteit and the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Academic Angel Fund invests in early-stage startups emerging from academia.

Ties van Rappard, one of the Amsterdam Academic Angel Fund reviewers, considers the fund to play an important role in the ecosystem.

He says, “It’s the first station newly formed where university startups can go when other financing opportunities are not available yet. It’s the kickstarter of the student entrepreneurial ecosystem”.

The fund invests €10K worth of convertible loans in helping student entrepreneurs turn their ideas and visions into successful companies.

Eligibility criteria

  • Current student or recent graduate from the University of Amsterdam or Vrije Universiteit (less than 12 months from graduation)
  • Business proposition (approximately one page)
  • Proof of KvK enrollment (Chamber of Commerce)

Dr. Linda van de Burgwal, director of Demonstrator Lab Amsterdam, says, “Amsterdam Academic Angel Fund fills a critical gap in the Amsterdam entrepreneurial ecosystem. With its easy-access funding of EUR 10K, it provides a valuable stepping stone for starting entrepreneurs to develop their early-stage projects further. Furthermore, this makes them more eligible to acquire external non-dilutive funding, as they have a more mature project and dilutive funding, as the business project is derisked in several ways.”

The deadline for the application is on September 30, 2022. You can apply here
