Last update:

Fiberplane, an Amsterdam-based startup that builds collaborative notebooks for resolving incidents, announced that it has secured €7.5M funding in a Seed round of funding.

The round was co-led by Crane Venture Partners and Notion Capital, with participation from Northzone, System. One and Basecase Capital.

The company will use the funds to expand its team across product, customer development, and developer advocacy.

Fiberplane: Enhancing collaboration

Founded by Micha Hernandez van Leuffen, Fiberplane is on a mission to change how DevOps engineers and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) work together to resolve outages plus downtime.

Fiberplane says the current status quo of incident debugging goes back and forth between metrics, logs, and traces to figure out what exactly is going wrong and where.

For DevOps and SREs, it is hard to uniformly communicate around a disparate set of tools, considering the complete lack of collaborative features in the existing suite of tools.

“Failure is now a side-effect of infrastructure design, not a flaw, but the move towards cloud-native has made it harder for DevOps engineers and SRE’s to debug their applications and services. This is why we started Fiberplane,” says Leuffen.

Collaborative notebook for SREs

As a result, Fiberplane created a collaborative notebook to give SRE’s and DevOps engineers the ability to coordinate work related to downtime whilst building up a structured knowledge base that will provide correlated incidents and resolutions in the future.

Just like Google Docs, anyone can participate, edit in the notebook, and can also see actions taken based on the data.

“Over the past few months, we’ve built the core of our collaborative experience using the Rust programming language and WebAssembly, which allows us to build high-performance solutions in the browser today. We’re looking forward to expanding on this via open source WebAssembly-based plugins that can be written by the Fiberplane community at large,” says the company.

According to Techcrunch, the company has 13 employees and plans to hire more people from the UK, Berlin, Copenhagen, and the US to make sure they are building a diverse company.
