The startup ecosystem in the Netherlands is on fire! Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and other hardships in the last couple of years, the tech sector in the country has continued to grow and we have seen a surge in funding deals, particularly in 2021.
Known for its open culture, innovation and entrepreneurship, the Netherlands is home to a flourishing startup ecosystem. In fact, hundreds of startups are being launched every month across the country.
According to a report, Dutch-founded tech companies were responsible for 44,000 jobs last year, while international companies such as Tesla, Amazon, and Netflix created 34,000 positions.Â
Amsterdam startups are creating more positions in various areas, from operations and sales to marketing and HR. The number of people employed by Amsterdam’s startup sector keeps growing, states the report.
We have listed out a few Amsterdam-based startups that were founded this year.
Carv.comÂ
Founder/s: Barend Raaff, Matthijs Metzemaekers and Jeffrey Hoegen
At present, hybrid work has been adopted and embraced at an unprecedented speed. However, it adds 25% more meeting hours to the average workday. And here’s where the Dutch company comes into play.
Carv aims to elevate the hybrid working experience through a meeting intelligence platform. Its co-founder Barend Raaf was previously the CEO of Harver, a volume hiring solution, designed to enable digital and fair hiring at scale.
At present, Carv is hiring across various positions in Amsterdam, New York, and Colombo.Â
ViniMini
Founder/s: Laurie Lancee and Jozien Boersma
ViniMini launched its first peanut products, a reliable food supplement that helps to prevent food allergies in babies.Â
It all started when co-founder Laurie Lancee ended up in a horror scenario. Her 6-month-old baby Viggo was found to be allergic to eggs and went into anaphylactic shock. Fortunately, after a blood-curdling ride to the hospital, Viggo survived.
According to the company, 7 per cent of the babies in the Netherlands have a food allergy. This number has doubled in the past ten years and continues to increase.
However, scientific research shows that the risk of a peanut and egg allergy is reduced by allowing babies to eat peanuts and eggs early and regularly.
The Dutch company aims to provide a solution with their healthy, convenient and reliable nutritional supplements for babies, which are based on scientific research and guidelines from doctors.Â
LegalCrowd
Founder/s: Joost Jansen and Gabriel Poltorak
Based out of Amsterdam, LegalCrowd is the only platform in the Netherlands aimed at crowdfunding for legal proceedings.Â
According to LegalCrowd, individuals alone can’t finance court cases battling companies and governments as they fail to act against global challenges like climate change, social inequality, and other issues.
The company’s platform enables users to start a campaign and raise money for the legal process that aims to transform social radicalism into economic and political change. Every campaign page contains information about that campaign and what exactly the money will be used for.
