The 6th edition of World Summit AI (WSAI) is back in Amsterdam.
Considered one of the hottest events on Artificial Intelligence (AI), WSAI provides a platform for experts and enthusiasts in the field of AI to network and learn from each other. This year’s edition promises to be bigger and better than ever, with more opportunities to chat with leading AI thinkers and doers.
The World Summit AI 2022 (WSAI 2022) will be hosted on October 12 and 13 at the Taets Art and Event Park in Amsterdam.
What is World Summit AI?
World Summit AI brings together a global AI ecosystem of enterprises, big tech, startups, investors, and Science. Some of the brightest brains in AI will be present as speakers and ready to answer and tackle some of the most burning AI issues and set the global AI agenda.
The event will also provide a platform for budding startups working in AI or using AI to showcase their products and businesses, and seek funding.
StartupAmsterdam, Smart Health Amsterdam, Gemeente Amsterdam, CTO Innovatieteam, Amsterdam Convention Bureau, Invest in Holland and the Nederlandse AI Coalitie are also supporting and taking part in this flagship event.
Here is the list of 17 Amsterdam-based startups and scale-ups to meet at World Summit AI.
Amberscript
Founder/s: Peter-Paul de Leeuw, Thomas Dieste and Timo Behrens
Amberscript is an Amsterdam-based startup that created a specialised AI-enabled speech-to-text engine to ease manual transcription efforts. The company’s SaaS software enables users to transcribe audio and video into text using speech recognition automatically.
Amberscript’s platform is used by journalists, scientists, students, doctors, lawyers, and many others worldwide. The company deploys its AI algorithms and web text editor for enhanced accuracy.
A few days back, Amberscript was announced as a nominee for The Deloitte Technology Fast 50 competition. The company also made it into the finals of the Young Business Award, the largest startup competition in the Netherlands.
Amberscript will be exhibiting its innovation with Smart Health Amsterdam at the Amsterdam booth on October 12.
Cardiomo
Founder/s: Ksenia Belkina and Roman Belkin
Cardiomo is an AI-based solution for cardiac patient monitoring. This wearable device and analytic system remotely monitor patient vitals using biosensors and AI to detect cardiac events with 99.63 per cent accuracy.
The miniature wearable patch has sensors to record ECG, Respiration, Skin Temp, and Body Movement. The mobile app registers vitals, and the data is then analysed by an AI Engine in a HIPAA-compliant cloud to detect CVD symptoms.
A few months back, the Amsterdam company participated as a Dutch delegation at DMEA – Connecting Digital Health, an event for digitalising healthcare.
Cardiomo will be will be exhibiting its AI-powered wearable device with Smart Health Amsterdam at the Amsterdam booth on October 12.
WSK Medical
Founder/s: Marius Wellenstein
WSK Medical focuses on developing AI solutions for head and neck/throat cancer detection and digital pathology (automated breast cancer grading, automated Tumour-Stroma Ratio, automated TILs detection, and more). The Dutch company has also developed Zeno AI, the first real-time AI solution for early throat cancer detection for ENT surgeons.

What are you most excited about when it comes to exhibiting at WSAI?
“We are very excited to be showing the world Zeno AI. Zeno AI is the first real-time solution for throat cancer detection during an endoscopic examination. We are the first company in the world that launched and implemented an AI solution for ENT surgeons focused on throat cancer detection. We are also looking forward to meeting like-minded innovators and investors.”
What are your startup’s latest milestones?
“We implemented Zeno AI at two ENT departments in the Netherlands, two additional ones in the pipeline, and another ENT department at the National Cancer Center in Italy. We also applied for CE-MDR with Zeno AI, which is crucial for market entry.”
What are your bottlenecks, where do you need help, and what are your main needs?
“Funding is where we need help. We are currently raising a seed round (€1M) that will enable us – besides generating more sales – to apply for UKCA certification (for the UK market), set up the first-of-its-kind multi-center clinical study for Zeno AI, and enhancing Zeno AI with additional features.”
Is being part of Amsterdam’s startup ecosystem supporting your entrepreneurial journey?
“Yes! We rent an office at Startup Village and get a lot of support from the ecosystem via presentations and networking. Smart Health Amsterdam and Startup Amsterdam enable a lot of exposure opportunities for us as a startup. This exposure is crucial for us, and we are thankful to be part of such a knowledge-rich and fruitful ecosystem.”

OMRT
Founder/s: Andreja Andrejevic, Jasper Spiegeler
OMRT builds a deep tech design platform for real estate development. The company aims to reduce a building’s environmental impact and speed up financial returns by cutting the design process from 16 to just two months.
The company works with leading project developers such as VORM to revolutionise the design process and improve the sector. OMRT enables its customers to make critical design decisions for building projects early on and take sustainability aspects into account from the start.
With more than 30,000 houses created, OMRT claims that it has influenced the market considerably. Besides World Summit AI, OMRT was one of the 9 European AI and HPC startups selected for EscherCloud and NVIDIA’s Hyperion Lab.
In September, the company also raised €5M in a Series A round of funding led by SHIFT Invest, with the participation of current shareholder VORM.

“We just signed a €5M Series A funding round this summer! This was a huge milestone for us. The funding unlocks the next stage of expansion & scaling.”
What are your bottlenecks, where do you need help, and what are your main needs?
“We’re moving from working on a project-by-project basis to developing a tech product capable of scaling much faster. To do this, we need to hire the right people. Expertise & cultural match are what make a potential OMRTer shine.”

We are proud of how our data analytics platform is now being used within all different sectors in the built environment to address the different issues. Where we first focused on a particular issue, we are now expanding our services and applications in the built environment. From predicting the livability in areas to predicting rents, all data-driven issues can be addressed with our platform.”

Spin AI
Spectrum Intelligence is an Amsterdam-based data annotation startup that aims to have a social and technological impact on the modern, inclusive society and economy.
The data annotation services include tagging images, videos, facial recognition, text annotation, audio annotation, and more complicated data requirements.
The company employs people from the Autistic Spectrum. It uses their advanced precision, patience, attention to detail, and repetitiveness skills to provide secure data and the cost/efficiency value to the data annotation market requirements.
Besides data annotation services, the company also provides additional services like data acquisition and data scientists to analyse and offer Artificial Intelligence cases solutions.

Ancora Health

Ancora Health focuses on preventive healthcare in which one’s lifestyle functions as medicine. The platform has developed an approach that differs from regular health programmes in clinical parameters, behaviour, and lifestyle support. The Ancora health programme combines personal coaching with digital support in its approach. The company has two ultramodern studios in Amsterdam and Eindhoven.
Earlier this year, the company raised €3M in funding from Dutch banking giant Rabobank.

Pacmed
Founder/s: Willem Herter, Wouter Kroese and Hidde Hovenkamp
Pacmed is a fast-growing scale-up that originated from the Dutch ThinkTank that develops machine learning software for healthcare. It develops software for Oncology, Emergency Care, and Intensive Care.
The Dutch company’s mission is to ensure patients only get the care that has the highest probability of truly improving their lives. The company works closely with the medical field and believes in the responsible deployment of AI in healthcare.
Last month, the company launched its first product, Pacmed Critical, which provides clinicians with AI-based decision support that helps them to make the best use of ICU capacity. It also predicts a patient’s risk of readmission or mortality and detailed information about the factors that affect the risk prediction.

Viqal

Viqal aims to address the challenge of staff shortages and unfair online reviews. The Dutch company provides hospitality organisations with real-time, effortless, and privacy-friendly customer sentiment data powered by smart acoustic sensors and AI.
The company helps organisations to analyse how people experience their visit in real-time and activate existing staff on the spot to better attend to guests. Viqal’s solution is live at data-driven hospitality organisations, including Millennium Hotels & Resorts in Singapore and Van der Valk in Amersfoort, The Netherlands.

What are you most excited about when it comes to exhibiting at WSAI?
“On October 12th at 11am, Viqal will be one of the AI startups pitching at the NL Lounge, hosted by The Netherlands AI Coalition and the Invest in Holland Network. Our pitch, a Lightning Talk about Emotional AI in the hospitality industry, aims to offer insights about the challenges of building an innovative state-of-the-art solution for smart buildings and service-oriented organisations with physical spaces.
And as part of the Startup City track, on the 13th during the whole day, Viqal will be showcasing our product and interacting with the general public, exchanging ideas and sharing knowledge.
Our goal is to keep building a solid network of investors and experts on the field of AI, while gaining more exposure with the media and exchanging experience with other startups. At Viqal, we want to be recognised as one of the main AI startups in NL, so we are joining the WSAI to build our reputation.”
What are your startup’s latest milestones?
“Our acoustic smart sensors and emotional AI provide completely effortless and real-time guest feedback to large data-driven hospitality organisations. With customers in Europe and Singapore, Viqal raised €500k total in pre-seed funding from Rabobank, Holland Startup and 2 angel investors (last closing June 2022). In Q2 2023, Viqal is raising €1.5M seed round.”

Uncover
Founder/s: Caroline Korteweg and Ingrid van de Pol-Mensing
Uncover has developed an AI-powered case management tool for attorneys.
The company’s solution utilises ‘unique’ algorithms to allow attorneys to structure the unstructured material in their case files, work with it in the preparation of their case, and engage with colleagues and clients throughout the litigation process.
The Dutch-founded legal startup uses AI to build a searchable, automatically organised set of papers and a drawing tool that allows users to refer to and connect evidence.

“We just finished a major project where we gathered over 15 hours of live feedback on our ‘in development’ software. We received strong confirmation that we are off to a great start. We are currently leveraging the feedback to get the Uncover platform ready to go to market.”

“It is. We are meeting a lot of great companies and people through the ecosystem and have even managed to attract a great tech lead, product lead, and senior software engineer.”

The founders of Project Cece, an Amsterdam-based online sustainable fashion marketplace, launched Impactbytes a few months back to help businesses find a product’s sustainability credentials.
The company does it through its intelligent data platform, making product-level insights for fashion brands available through a single interface.
The tech platform is partnering with over 200 sustainability-focused e-commerce brands to create a verified sustainable product data feed and connect them to large audiences.
The platform allows media outlets, including magazines, bloggers, and influencers, to access the data to find and verify products and brands that fit sustainability values for their articles and content.

Overstory

Overstory is a global vegetation intelligence platform. The Amsterdam-based company applies Artificial Intelligence (AI) to high-resolution satellite imagery to provide real-time analytics of natural resources.
The Dutch company’s solution helps forest industry companies, electric utility companies, and NGOs to improve decision-making with timely and accurate insights into natural resources.
The company’s platform provides minute details, including the location, height, health, and species of trees. It then alerts customers on where the riskiest trees are and those that need to be cut down.

Kosa.ai

The Amsterdam-based company’s automated responsible AI system helps enterprises build more responsible AI practices, reduce costly litigation risks, and increase customer trust and revenue.
KOSA will be speaking in the main plenary on October 12 at 16:00 on “When is AI transparent enough?”
Mithra-ai
Mithra AI is an Amsterdam-based AI startup that helps procurement teams to make data-driven decisions by providing them continuous visibility and insights into their spending data through its cognitive spend intelligence solution. Mithra AI will be doing a Lightning talk at the NL Lounge.
Nostics

Based out of Amsterdam, Nostics has developed an instant diagnostics platform that enables people to get medical test results within 3 minutes.
The company’s test kits will allow rapid testing anywhere, without expensive and time-consuming lab facilities. Since the platform uses cutting-edge Immunofluorescence chromatography, the company claims the test is reliable, rapid, automated, and digital.
The test kit and analyser are independently validated in the Netherlands and comply with RIVM and HSC guidelines. Currently, the company is hiring for three positions – Office Manager, Lead Data Scientist, and Lab Analyst.

HIPSTO
HIPSTO is building the world’s premier AI open knowledge discovery platform, FalconV.
The company says that its proprietary AI solution is a fully automated, cloud-based, end-to-end solutions stack that provides unparalleled (text) data extraction, curation, analysis, and delivery in 100+ languages.
FalconV consists of a series of chained NLP microservices that can be used singularly or in combination to provide a variety of out-of-the-box or bespoke solutions for multiple industries.

Ellogon AI

Ellogon.AI develops automated biomarkers from pathology biopsies and genomic data for personalised immunotherapy using data, cutting-edge algorithms, and a research team.
The platform generates diagnostic and prognostic reports on histopathological and genomic data that are necessary for medical researchers and professionals to assess response to treatment.
