Amsterdam-based Just Eat Takeaway, a global online food delivery marketplace, announced on Monday that it has partnered with Sainsbury’s, a supermarket chain in the UK.
The announcement comes a few weeks after joining hands with another British supermarket chain, Co-op, marking the platform’s second tie-up with one of the UK’s ‘Big Four’ grocery brands.
Siobhan McMullan-Finnegan-Dehn, Director of eCommerce at Sainsbury’s, says, “Just Eat will offer another fast and convenient way for customers to get Sainsbury’s groceries delivered to their door. We are always on the lookout for more ways to make our customers’ lives easier, and we look forward to working with Just Eat and serving more shoppers with even more great value and quality Sainsbury’s products.”
The partnership will see the launch of more than 175 stores by the end of February in several locations, including London, Edinburgh, and Bristol. The companies have plans to roll out to many more cities across 2023.
Moving forward, customers across the UK can purchase thousands of items from Sainsbury’s through Just Eat, while the latter will take care of the delivery within 30 minutes through its growing courier network across the UK.
Just Eat already reaches 97 per cent of all UK postcodes and features over 2000 grocery sites on its platform.
Globally, the company supports over 30,000 grocery and convenience stores on its platforms, including partnerships with brands such as GETIR, ASDA, Ahold, Carrefour, Booker, Spar, Shell, 7-Eleven, Marqt, PLUS, Pascual Group, Galp, Kibus, Taste of America, Delicatessen Argentina, and The Beer Store.
Amy Heather, Director of Strategic Accounts at Just Eat, says, “Just Eat’s grocery offering is going from strength to strength and continues to be an area of significant focus. We’re excited to be working with Sainsbury’s to bring even more choice and flexibility to our customers when ordering the food and products they want when they want. With the partnership launching in more than 175 sites by March, we’re delighted to bring a wide range of options to thousands of consumers, demonstrating the huge value we can provide in this space with on-demand delivery.”
