Amsterdam-based Ver.iD, a SaaS platform specialising in digital identity verification, has secured €2M in an angel round of funding.
The company plans to launch a €4M funding round to support its European expansion. The recent funding comes from a group of prominent angel investors.
Ver.iD: Reinventing verification
The introduction of eIDAS 2.0, the updated European regulation for digital identity, mandates public and private organisations to integrate digital ID solutions by 2026. This includes sectors such as banking, energy, and insurance.
Ver.iD is contributing to this shift by providing a solution designed to ensure compliance, reduce fraud, prevent data breaches, and improve user experience.
Robert van Altena, co-founder of Ver.iD, says, “In a time when AI-driven fraud and data breaches dominate the news, Ver.iD enables companies to receive only the necessary customer data. This ensures privacy while making onboarding and verification processes faster, safer, and more user-friendly.”
Ver.iD provides a platform for integrating ID wallets and digital identification methods, enabling companies to offer customers the flexibility to choose their preferred identity app. The solution is designed to be scalable and user-friendly, addressing the needs of both organisations and users.
Ver.iD’s platform is utilised by organisations for both innovative projects and routine operations. Examples include simplifying car insurance applications for Verbond van Verzekeraars and Nationale Nederlanden, enhancing digital onboarding for the Municipality of Nijmegen, and aiding approximately 200 accounting firms in meeting compliance requirements through Compliance Wise.
The platform is also being piloted with the Chamber of Commerce to provide executives with access to authorisation data via ID wallets.
How was Ver.iD born?
In 2021, Robert Van Altena, Sten Reijers, and Roger Olivieira founded Ver.iD to address the inefficiencies and risks of traditional, paper-based identity verification processes.
Combining expertise in compliance, user-centred technology design, and business innovation, they developed a platform focused on enhancing digital verification security, simplicity, and user control.
Ver.iD’s vision aligns with eIDAS 2.0, the EU regulation to enhance secure digital identity solutions and protect citizens’ data privacy.
The company prioritises compliance and user privacy, ensuring customer data is not stored and giving users full control over the information they share. The platform reviews ID apps to meet high-security standards, offering robust protection against data breaches.
Co-founder van Altena adds, “We are proud of the trust our investors and clients have placed in us. Our goal is to become an international market leader and set the standard for digital identity in Europe.”
