Munich-based ARX Robotics, a defence tech startup focused on unmanned autonomous land systems, has secured €31M in a Series A funding round led by HV Capital.
Other investors, including Omnes Capital and significant support from existing investors in the NATO Innovation Fund and Project A, also participated.
HV Capital is one of the early-stage and growth investors in Europe. With nine fund generations in 24 years and €2.8B in managed assets, HV Capital is one of the continent’s most active investors.
HV Capital has invested in more than 250 internet and technology companies, supporting startups with ticket sizes ranging from €0.5M to €60M.
Fabian Gruner, Partner at HV Capital, says, “ARX is proof that Europe can build internationally relevant defence technology: modern, AI-native, and strategically sovereign. Their rapid deployment across Europe is a testament to both the urgency and strength of their product. HV Capital is thrilled to back this exceptional team and their mission.”
Fund utilisation
With this new funding, the German company is set to strengthen its leadership in modular, AI-powered ground robotics.
The company plans to use the funds to significantly scale production, accelerate its European expansion into key markets, and strengthen its AI-driven defence capabilities.
Additionally, the company plans to continue investing in top-tier European AI talent and further enhancing ARX Mithra OS as the backbone of autonomous defence.
The announcement comes a couple of months after opening a production facility for military robotic systems in the Munich metropolitan region.
ARX Robotics: Strengthening Europe’s defence autonomy
Founded by Marc Wietfeld, Stefan Roebel, and Maximilian Wied, ARX Robotics is a venture capital-financed startup in the field of defence tech.
It specialises in autonomous unmanned ground systems with scalable hardware and software architectures.
The company’s offering in mobile robotics includes the world’s first independent AI-powered operating system for legacy vehicles, ARX Mithra OS.
It helps militaries increase their operational efficiency and enhance situational awareness as they modernise their fleets.
“The demand for modular, software-driven defence systems is growing rapidly—and we’re building the company that will define this category in Europe”, says Marc Wietfeld, co-founder and CEO of ARX Robotics
ARX systems are currently being deployed, procured, or tested by seven European armed forces for applications including reconnaissance, surveillance, transportation, CASEVAC, training, and simulation.
The company has increased its unmanned systems production capacity thirtyfold in the past six months, enabling large-scale manufacturing.
It has also completed the largest deployment of Western-designed unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) in Ukraine, reinforcing its commitment to European and global security.
The company was recently contracted by the European Defence Agency (EDA) to participate in the first EU-wide defence innovation initiative.
With its technology, ARX Robotics has the potential to retrofit over 50,000 NATO vehicles.
“At the core of ARX Robotics is a clear mission: to build the next generation of defence infrastructure through scalable robotics and software. We’re happy to be partnering with such renowned investors who back this mission. This fresh funding is an important milestone and catalyst that allows us to move from successful deployments to industrial scale,” adds Wietfeld.
