Amsterdam-based BigCircle Ventures, which aims to be the world’s leading cleantech venture builder, has completed a €2M funding round.

The round brings in more than 10 new investors, including Oost NL and Alphatron Group BV. Oost NL will work with BigCircle to advance regional innovation, while Alphatron aims to help commercialise technologies with tangible impact.

Rick Mintjes, Investment Manager – Energy at Oost NL, adds, “With our strategic investment in BigCircle, we are strengthening our partnership to accelerate technological innovation and expand the ecosystem in our region.”

Jerry Jansen, Investment Manager at Alphatron, says, “In BigCircle’s venture model, we find the additionality we are looking for: they systematically turn overlooked climate innovations into successful businesses, which perfectly matches our impact ambition.”

Capital utilisation

BigCircle Ventures plans to use the funds to increase the number of startups it helps build up to 10 cleantech startups each year.

The firm will also start working with research departments beyond the Netherlands to find more promising deeptech innovations across Europe.

Joost Kruytzer, founder & CEO of BigCircle Ventures, says, “We are very pleased with our investors’ recognition of the importance and vast potential of the clean energy and materials markets – think for example of renewables, biobased circular, and critical materials recycling and alternatives.”

Brief about BigCircle Ventures

Many cleantech inventions that could support net-zero goals are not developed or applied in the market. BigCircle Ventures works to change this by finding and funding early research ideas from universities, institutes, and companies.

The firm aims to build new cleantech ventures and support global sustainability efforts. It focuses on energy and materials solutions, pursuing both climate impact and financial performance while contributing to Europe’s innovation capacity and strategic resilience.
