The Belgian startup ecosystem has been growing and thriving over the years, with Brussels, Ghent and Antwerp being the key startup hubs of the country. According to Dealroom, Belgium has witnessed nearly 41 funding rounds in 2021.

Qover

Founder/s: Jean-Charles Velge, Quentin Colmant

Founded year: 2016

Total funding: €35.7M

Qover designs builds and distributes digital insurance solutions globally to help fast-growing companies. It offers multiple types of insurance for rent guarantee, travel, rider liability, accident, and more. The company features digital insurance infrastructure for offering insurance quotes and contracts through insurance API. Users can access their own dashboard, manage portfolios, and monitor statistics.

Currently, the company is operating in sectors including the gig economy, soft mobility, travel, and PropTech, and is active in more than 32 countries. It covers more than one million people across Europe. Some of its partners include giants such as Deliveroo, Revolut, Wolt, Decathlon, Cowboy, and Immoweb, among others.

Last month, Qover raised €20.7M and is focused on increasing its headcounts in the business development and marketing roles in order to speed up customer acquisition and sales. You can apply here.

Deliverect

Founded year: 2018

Total funding: €73.9M

Deliverect is a subscription-based service that integrates third-party online ordering platforms like Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Glovo, and Doordash into restaurants’ point-of-sale systems. The software helps in automating the inbound online order flow through a single point and eliminating the requirement for restaurant staff to monitor multiple devices and manually re-enter orders into their existing system.

Arkane Network

Total funding: €2.6M (includes 2 Angel and 2 Seed rounds)

Arkane Network was founded to solve the complexity of blockchain technology and make it ready for mainstream adoption. With Arkanes solution, every Rest-API Developer can develop blockchain-based products. Arkane does this with its blockchain agnostic, digital wallet services, NFT services (including NFT minting APIs) and the Arkane Market (an NFT Marketplace) for companies and popular blockchain games such as CoinStats, NFTBank, Atari, Bondly Finance, The Sandbox, and Aavegotchi.

AppTweak is a provider of App Store Optimisation (ASO) tools driven by data science. The ASO tool helps companies to grow their apps and games with actionable insights in a simple interface. According to the company, its tools provide solutions for every step of the app’s life cycle. AppTweak’s features include ASO intelligence, Ad intelligence, App intelligence, and market intelligence. 

The company has trusted partners of more than 1,500 mobile leaders, including Amazon Music, Jam City, Yelp, and Adobe, among others. AppTweak supports customers from all around the world and has offices in Brussels, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Bengaluru (India).

N-Side

Total funding: €10M

N-Side is a software consulting company that offers analytics designing optimisation solutions for life sciences and energy management. The company offers solutions from strategy to operations to provide decision-making power to companies by leveraging their value of data and business knowledge. Its cloud-based custom solutions use technologies such as machine learning (ML) and powerful algorithms to solve complex industry challenges.

N-Side empowers organisations with data-driven decisions to optimise processes and use resources wisely while efficiently managing risk and maximising profits. Its customers include companies from sectors such as pharmaceuticals, power exchanges, Transmission System Operators (TSO’s), and Distribution System Operators (DSO’s), among others.

Soda Data

Soda basically wants to help keep data “fit for purpose”, verifiable, and trustworthy by connecting data engineers, operations, and the business to collaborate and work with trusted data sets. With open-source testing projects and monitoring platform, the company allows its customers to create an integrated data environment to help them respond faster to change, better adopt and deploy new technologies, as well as to develop new products and services.

Univercells

Total Funding: €156M

Founded year: 2013

Univercells is a business-to-business provider focused on increasing the availability of affordable vaccines and biotherapeutics to address global health challenges. The company is developing turnkey solutions for a series of vaccines and biotherapeutics to be delivered at an affordable price. 

Recently, Univercells bagged €70M in its Series C round of funding from Bill Gates, George Soros, SFPI-FPIM, SRIW, Christian Dumolin, Guido Vanherpe, and Marc Speeckaert.
