Paris-based EssilorLuxottica, a company that designs, manufactures and distributes ophthalmic lenses, frames and sunglasses, has acquired Automation & Robotics (A&R), a designer and manufacturer of automated systems for optical lens quality control. A&R serves both mass production facilities and prescription laboratories.

Aim of the acquisition

Founded in 1983 and based in Belgium, A&R provides technologies used in optical metrology. Its operations span research and development, software development, manufacturing, distribution, system deployment, and related services.

The deal supports EssilorLuxottica’s efforts in enhancing production processes through automation and digital systems. EssilorLuxottica will strengthen its control over production, improve quality and efficiency, and provide better service across the optical industry.
