Masawa, a Berlin-based Nurture Capital fund, has announced its first investment in Quan, a Dutch platform leveraging science-based predictors and healthy rituals to prevent employee burnout and enhance team performance.
Masawa has now joined Quan’s existing investors including Y Combinator, 4impact Capital, Knop Ventures, Golden Egg Check, Joanna Invests, and HearstLab, among others.
Enhancing employee well-being
The Hague-based Quan introduced a software platform to help organisations, teams, and individuals leverage well-being as a key driver of success.
The platform identifies 50 sub-dimensions and 200 predictors of well-being to guide leaders in improving employee support. It includes a comprehensive assessment covering five dimensions: Mind, Body, Meaning, Social Connectedness, and Self-Fulfillment.
Employees receive personalised insights, while HR and team leaders access anonymised data to inform actionable strategies.
Founded in 2020 by Arosha Brouwer and Lucy Howie, Quan aims to simplify the science of well-being and position it as a critical factor in workplace productivity and performance, addressing stress before it escalates and fostering a healthier workplace culture.
In April 2024, Quan formed a strategic collaboration with Utrecht-based occupational healthcare provider Zorg van de Zaak and secured a bridging funding round led by Hearstlab and 4impact, with participation from existing investors Y Combinator, among others.
In January 2022, the female-led Dutch startup raised €1.03M in pre-seed funding from Y Combinator.
How was Quan born?
Quan was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic to address the growing impact of workplace stress and generic well-being initiatives that offered only short-term relief.
Recognising the need to tackle underlying issues, Quan’s team collaborated with psychologists and therapists to create a digital platform focused on improving self-awareness and identifying key areas for improvement in personal and work lives.
The platform combines data collection, personalised insights, and guided interventions to drive behavioural change and promote holistic self-care.
Quan aims to demonstrate the direct link between healthy teams, business growth, and long-term success, challenging the perception of well-being as a secondary HR concern.
