French digital audio streaming startup Majelan has recently secured an investment of €4 million round led by Idinvest Partners, with participation from Jacques Veyrat from Impala, Xavier Niel and Fabrice Larue. With the funds, the startup aims to be the key player in the podcast arena.
Majelan – Netflix of podcasts
Podcasts are gaining popularity with each passing day. There over 550,000 podcasts are now active in more than 100 languages, while 18.5 million episodes are available online. Majelan aspires to grab this opportunity and is working hard to be the market leader in the digital audio streaming space. The startup is matching its new platform with Netflix – an industry stalwart in video streaming.
The co-founder Mathieu Gallet explained, “Majelan is a platform that will allow you to find and discover audio content, categorized by theme and according to current events. Podcasts are growing in popularity in France, with more than 4 million people in France listening each month, a 25% increase over last year. In the United States, where this market is more advanced, 73 million Americans already use podcasts every month.”
Founded by Mathieu Gallet and Arthur Perticoz, Majelan offers personalised high-quality audio contents. The startup is going to launch its mobile application in different languages in early 2019. Users can subscribe few audios for free while exclusive contents will be available on paid subscription €4.99/month onwards.
