TSMC reports manufacturing 12,682 different products for 534 customers using 305 technologies in 2025. The scale illustrates how widely the contract chipmaker serves electronics markets. It does not mean every chip in a phone, car or bank came from TSMC.

What the company reports

Its foundry overview lists markets including high-performance computing, smartphones, automotive applications, the Internet of Things and digital consumer electronics. The product count describes the company’s output across those markets, rather than a census of all semiconductors used worldwide.

TSMC manufactures customer designs. Identifying a brand as a customer does not establish that every component sold by that brand, or fitted to a particular vehicle or payment card, was fabricated by TSMC.

The geography is broader than one island

The 2025 annual report describes operations in Taiwan and overseas manufacturing, including Arizona, Japan and China. Taiwan remains central to the company’s manufacturing network, but “one company on a single island” omits operating facilities elsewhere.

A concentration question worth asking carefully

Dependence on a large supplier can matter even when that supplier is not the only producer in the industry. A disruption can affect particular customer designs and process technologies without stopping every chip made everywhere.

Assessing that risk requires questions about which components a customer uses, where they are made, and whether an alternative has been qualified. The 12,682-product figure cannot answer all of those questions on its own.

The striking part of the disclosure is breadth: hundreds of customers use one manufacturer across many applications. That is enough to make the company’s capacity and geographic footprint consequential, without assigning the same origin to every circuit in daily life.

Correction, 3 October 2026: The earlier headline and body claimed that chips in phones, cars and banks all trace to TSMC on a single island. The disclosed counts concern TSMC’s own products and customers; other manufacturers exist and TSMC operates overseas fabs. Unsupported component-specific and universal-origin claims have been removed.
