Rotterdam-based KPN, a telecommunications company, announced on Thursday, June 22, that it has acquired the operations of Dutch competitor Youfone for approximately €200M.

In the Netherlands, KPN claims to be an industry leader in IT and telecommunications. “We serve customers at home and abroad with our fixed and mobile networks for telephony, data and television,” says the company.

KPN provides a variety of communications, information, entertainment, and commercial services to retail consumers through single-play and multi-play packages. Fixed and mobile phone service, mobile data, internet, and television are all included in the package.

Businesses can choose from a wide choice of end-to-end solutions in the areas of infrastructure, workplace management, security, the cloud, data networks, and data centres. These services are all provided by KPN.

It is active in the business market with brands including KPN, Solcon and Inspark.

Why this acquisition?

According to KPN, its position in the mobile and internet sectors is strengthened by this acquisition, particularly in the faster-growing no-frills categories.

Both companies anticipate significant development in the future years by building on the efficient business model developed by Youfone.

Youfone is already active on KPN’s networks and is growing rapidly. The mobile and fixed networks in the Netherlands are utilised by over 540,000 Youfone users and the acquisition will ensure that these consumers are still treated in the same trustworthy manner.

KPN will add Youfone to its portfolio, in addition to its other brands such as XS4ALL, Solcon, and Simyo. Youfone will also continue to function independently within KPN to guarantee that current and future customers are treated in a trustworthy way.
