Last update:

Back in 2017, Disney announced its plans to create streaming video service to challenge Netflix, Amazon Prime Hulu, and similar high-end streamers. One year down the line, the company named its streaming service as Disney+.

Netherlands, Canada, and the U.S. get it first!

In the recent development, Walt Disney Company’s DTCI (Direct-to-Consumer and International) segment confirmed that Disney+ will launch in the Netherlands and Canada, in tandem with the U.S., on November 12.

It will launch a week later, on November 19, in Australia and New Zealand. Also, the company is expected to launch its service in other major markets within the first two years.

Home to our favourite characters!

Disney+ is now exclusive home to comic entertainment brands, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and more.

According to the company, it will be available on nearly all major mobile and connected TV devices at launch with global distribution agreements in place with Apple, Google, Microsoft, Roku, and Sony.

€6.99 per month!

As the global rollout for Disney+ begins on November 12, it will be priced at €6.99 per month (or €69.99 per year) in the Netherlands.

Furthermore, the consumers will be able to subscribe to Disney+ directly or via in-app purchase and start streaming from the following partner platforms and devices (dependent on country):

  • Apple (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV, and fully integrated with the Apple TV app; customers can subscribe to Disney+ via in-app purchase)
  • Google (Android phones, Android TV devices, Google Chromecast, and Chromecast built-in devices)
  • Microsoft (Xbox One)
  • Sony / Sony Interactive Entertainment (all Android-based Sony TVs and PlayStation4)
  • Roku (Roku streaming players and Roku TV models)

D23 attendees get a chance to pre-register

This paid subscription service from Disney offers customers access to a wide range of library of Disney’s and Fox’s content as well as new, exclusive TV shows, movies, and documentaries. Notably, the attendees of D23 will get a chance to pre-register for Disney Plus. For the uninitiated, D23 is Disney’s biennial super-fan convention in Anaheim, California, Aug. 23-25.
