Each year, somewhere around €8 billion is wasted on excess fertilizer globally, which is bad news for farmers’ wallets and bad news for Mother Earth. In this regard, the Danish startup – Nordetect is helping farmers improve fertilizer usage in their fields through a product that delivers immediate in-field results for chemical analysis.

Recently, the Copenhagen-based startup has closed a funding round with Rockstart, PreSeed Ventures, SOSV, and Luminate Venture Corp.

Keenan Pinto, CEO at Nordetect:

“Optimising the use of chemistry (fertilizer, pesticides, etc.) in agriculture has been a core focus since our inception. The new funding enables us to get our rapid chemical analysis product closer to market and serve customers in Denmark and the Netherlands.”

“Lab-on-a-Chip”

Founded by Keenan Pinto and Palak Sehgal in 2016, Nordetect has pioneered a simple, robust “Lab-on-a-Chip” for the agricultural industry.

With a simple one-click device and test cartridge, they can make accurate chemical analysis in record time. Combined with the platform, users can track the samples with GPS-Barcode sample mapping.

Notably, the startup provides lab-grade analysis in a fraction of the time, enabling any user who needs to make chemical analysis to do so faster and in a more affordable manner.

Mark Durno, the Managing Partner at Rockstart AgriFood, explains:

Access to accurate and granular data is more important than ever in our food system, especially in times when the world is so connected, and decisions need to be made quickly. With our fund, we invest from pre-seed to Series B in startups who drive positive change in our food supply system; Nordetect is a great example of a company driving such positive change.

Closed €18 million in AgriFood fund!

Back in January this year, Amsterdam-based accelerator Rockstart closed over €18 million in their AgriFood fund. Nordetect is one of the 10 startups that the Dutch accelerator chose to fund. The current batch of AgriFood tech startups hails from 6 countries. Presenting at the event will be Beyond Leather Materials, Agranimo, ChefMe, Vultus, Nordetect, Miils, KrishiHub, Wenda, Raahandel, and Tractor Junction.
