FreightHub, Europe’s first digital freight forwarder, strategically expands its presence in Asia. Since the beginning of November, the company has started to handle shipments with 30 new employees at three Chinese locations in Shanghai, Ningbo, and Shenzhen.

FreightHub co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer Michael Wax said:

With these three new locations, we are strengthening our presence in the important Asian logistics market and underlining our leading position on the Asian-European trade lane. With the help of our local teams, we can handle the entire supply chain ourselves – from the suppliers’ plant to delivery in Europe – and successively expand our logistics offering in the country of origin, thus increasing traceability in Asia.

Recruited Eric Reuter as Vice President Asia!

FreightHub recruited Eric Reuter, an experienced logistics manager, to promote the Asian business. Notably, Eric Reuter brings in more than 20 years of experience in Asia and logistics from his time as Chief Commercial Officer at Atlantic Forwarding and General Manager DHL Asia. As Vice President of Asia, he will be responsible for operations and expansion of activities in Asia.

Eric Reuter commented:

Asia is changing fast – which traditional freight forwarders so far only did to a limited extent, if at all. With FreightHub, we are now bringing tradition, competence, and digitization in sync in a completely new way. The physical and digital proximity to the customer is improved through our country organization. Speed and proximity to customers and suppliers will improve collaboration and enable the further potential for digital optimization.

Europe’s first digital freight forwarder!

For the uninitiated, FreightHub was founded in Berlin in 2016 by Ferry Heilemann (CEO), Erik Muttersbach (CTO), Michael Wax (CCO), and Dr. Fabian Heilemann (Chairman of the Advisory Board). It is Europe’s first digital freight forwarder.

This platform helps the customers to handle global door-to-door transports completely in one place, including real-time quoting, online booking and real-time shipment tracking, and much more.

Why this expansion?

The expansion in Asia takes place against the backdrop of successful business development and illustrates the company’s ambition for growth on the European-Asian trade lane.

China, in particular, is continuously gaining importance in the logistics sector through the expansion of the new Silk Road. This is illustrated, among other things, by the increased number of trains on this route, growing from 17 in 2011 to 6,300 last year.

On this note, FreightHub’s expansion into Asia is also an important step towards the growth of its rail transport offering as an environmentally friendly and rather fast alternative to air or sea transport.

In 2019, the focus was on introducing Purchase Order Management, allowing customers to manage their supply chain at the product level, and optimizing the entire supply chain. From order to delivery, customers can manage all their purchase orders on the FreightHub platform and see in real-time where the ordered product is located.

Ferry Heilemann, co-founder, and CEO of FreightHub said:

“We are more than satisfied with the development this year.”
