HousingAnywhere, the world’s largest rental accommodation platform for young professionals and international students, has announced the acquisition of Hanover-based classifieds website Studenten-WG.

With this acquisition, HousingAnywhere solidifies its position in the German real estate market, especially in the lower price segments, and materializes its ambition of becoming the largest online rental platform in Europe by 2022.

For the uninitiated, Studenten-WG was founded in 2000 as a student project by Sebastian Stadtlich and Thomas Winkler for students searching for accommodation in Germany and Austria. At present, the platform boasts more than 20,000 active advertisements and three million users.

Upon this acquisition, both tenants and landlords advertising on Studenten-WG will be directed to the HousingAnywhere platform, where they will be granted easy access to the full HousingAnywhere portfolio and all of its technological solutions to finding accommodation or tenants.

Djordy Seelmann, CEO of HousingAnywhere:

We will be welcoming millions of new users to our proptech platform, and they can immediately enjoy the benefits of increased choice in accommodation and convenience. In addition to our diverse, accessible, and affordable housing, the platform offers easy-to-manage bookings by curated landlords and tenants.

From now on, Studenten-WG users now have access to an enhanced online experience, along with the full suite of tools on the HousingAnywhere platform, such as HousingAnywhere Payments, HousingAnywhere’s anti-scam Artificial Intelligence and dedicated customer support in over eight languages.

It’s worth mentioning that providers will also benefit from the platform’s partnerships with 150+ universities, connecting them to international students from all over the world.

Seelmann:

We are ready to accelerate our already strong growth momentum. Over the previous months, our team undertook an amazing effort, which resulted in sustainable triple-digit growth. Realizing our future growth through M&A is part of our vision. We are committed to the German and Austrian market, and we plan to bring a strong contribution to improving the experience for both tenants and accommodation providers to make online rental easier, safer, and ultimately, more efficient.

Based out of Rotterdam, HousingAnywhere boasts 50,000 active advertisements and over 8 million users in over 60 countries. The rental platform allows tenants to interact directly with landlords and enter into medium-term rental agreements.
