The Netherlands has a strong base of hauliers and concentrates a high volume of goods transport by road, making it among the highest in Europe. The country has two key logistical hubs – Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam and the largest European port in Rotterdam.
The Netherlands offers ideal conditions to establish operations with low technological barriers, the knowledgeable workforce in the freight industry, and strong pre-existing freight infrastructure. However, the sector still presents great inefficiencies for short and medium distance freight services and this is where the Spanish trucking platform Ontruck wants to bring about improvement.
Launches operations in the Netherlands
Ontruck continues its international expansion by announcing the opening of a new office in Amsterdam to bring its innovative road transport solutions to the Netherlands. The company will deploy its activities in five Dutch cities including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, and Breda. It will offer short and medium transport coverage in areas facing heavy demand and those around large urban centres.
The Spanish freight service provider has already signed up with hundreds of hauliers in the Netherlands. Its network comprises vehicles of all types and gives importance to light vehicles including vans and rigid trucks.
“Our objective is to position ourselves as the largest network for freight transport in Europe. We are incredibly excited to roll out Ontruck in what constitutes our 4th market to date after the UK and France. The domestic trucking industry in the Netherlands transports 100 million tonnes of palletized goods annually, adding the major potential for our services across Europe. From a geographic perspective, the Netherlands is a natural territorial extension for Ontruck, allowing us to connect more hauliers and shippers across a broader road network in the heart of Europe. We’re excited to be covering an extra 9,000KM2 and improving the service for shippers and hauliers alike”, ensures Iñigo Juantegui, CEO and co-founder of the company.
Benefits both truckers and companies
Founded in 2016 by Iñigo Juantegui, Ontruck develops technologies that make road freight experience smooth and efficient for both truckers and companies sending shipments. The freight service provider reduces the empty kilometres travelled by goods vehicles drastically by optimising their use.
Shippers quickly and easily upload their jobs to the Ontruck platform and hauliers can choose the shipments they want to transform from the app. This conserves the environment and reduces CO2 emissions. The Spanish company achieved a turnover of €9 million in 2018 and expects to close 2019 with a turnover of €27 million.
Recognised for its innovation
Ontruck has been shortlisted as a finalist for both the National Transport Awards (2018) and Global Freight Awards (2019). This is a recognition of the digital transformation and innovation brought by the company in the road freighting industry.
