UPSFF (UPS Flight Forward), a drone delivery subsidiary of logistic behemoth UPS has announced to collaborate with Wingcopter, a German drone maker. This collaboration is to develop the next-generation package delivery drones for a slew of use cases in the US and across the world. It is a critical step taken by UPSFF to build a diverse fleet of drones with different capabilities to meet more potential customer requirements.

Why Wingcopter?

UPS selected Wingcopter for its unmanned aircraft technology as it is a transport drone pioneer with a track record in delivering a wide range of goods over long distances in various international settings. It is an award-winning manufacturer of electric VTOL aircrafts meant to improving the lives of people across the world. It focuses on delivering medical goods, food, and parcels.

Wingcopter has already proven its ability in various beyond visual line of sight projects and for various customers across the world including factory-to-factory deliveries, commercial, and life-saving humanitarian projects.

Efficient drones!

The Wingcopter drones are capable of vertical takeoffs and landings even in tight spaces, transitioning to high-speed horizontal flight and enabling ranges suitable for a wide range of uses. The core innovation behind its electric vertical takeoff and landing drones is its patented tilt-rotor mechanism, which enables a seamless transition between two drone modes. These are the multicopter mode for hovering and fixed-wing mode for low-noise forward flight. The aerodynamic Wingcopter aircrafts operate with unmet stability even in harsh weather conditions.

With the partnership with Wingcopter, UPSFF will be able to develop solutions that can go well beyond healthcare and retail industries, if approved. And, it will be able to resolve challenges faced by hospitality, industrial manufacturing, high-tech, entertainment, and other customers.

Operates commercial drone delivery flights

Last year, UPSFF began operating commercial drone delivery flights in the UPS network. Since then, the company has managed to deliver thousands of medical samples via drones and supplements a ground courier service. Now, it plans to establish drone delivery services on healthcare campuses and explores the use of drones in delivering prescription and medical products within a residential setup.

Wingcopter is an award-winning German manufacturer of unmanned eVTOL aircrafts dedicated to improving the lives of people worldwide through meaningful commercial and humanitarian applications. Headed by three founders Tom Plümmer (CEO), Jonathan Hesselbarth (CTO) and Ansgar Kadura (COO), the Germany-based startup focuses on the delivery of medical goods as well as parcels and food. Back in December 2019, Wingcopter received seven-digit financing from Singapore-based Corecam Capital Partners.

In January 202, the multi-family office from Singapore has increased its investment in Wingcopter in a second closing. However, the company didn’t disclose the exact figures. Currently, Wingcopter already serves various clients in around 10 countries.
