Helsinki-based RELEX Solutions, a supply chain and retail planning solutions provider has acquired Optimity, a Swedish company specialising in supply chain planning and optimisation.

This acquisition enhances the RELEX platform by incorporating daily production planning, optimisation, and scheduling capabilities, strengthening its support for the entire consumer goods value chain.

Transforming supply chain planning for companies

Optimity, a provider of supply chain planning for nearly two decades, provides software to optimise intricate supply chains. Its comprehensive solution spans from strategic optimisation to detailed production scheduling.

Optimity focuses on manufacturers and distributors, offering services like demand planning, production scheduling, supply planning, distribution planning, inventory optimisation, and S&OP.

With 80+ customers across the food & beverage and complex manufacturing industries, Optimity’s experience augments RELEX’s expertise across retail and consumer goods.

Aim of the acquisition

The acquisition enhances RELEX’s capabilities by integrating Optimity’s offerings, particularly in synchronised daily production planning, optimisation, and scheduling for the food & beverage and manufacturing sector.

Mikko Kärkkäinen, co-founder and group CEO, RELEX says, “The consumer goods industry is incredibly dynamic and complex.”

“Acquiring Optimity will seamlessly link downstream demand with upstream planning, so consumer goods companies can more accurately predict consumer demand, optimise production plans and schedules, adjust inventory levels, and respond quickly to market changes or unexpected disruptions.”

“This acquisition also further accelerates our vision towards an adaptive, autonomous and synchronised supply chain unifying demand and supply planning decisions in one platform to minimise all wasted cost and product. We warmly welcome the Optimity team to RELEX,” adds Kärkkäinen.

Optimity’s integration into the RELEX platform introduces enhanced capabilities, including optimised production planning, scheduling, network balancing, distribution planning, and purchase planning.

These additions empower users to balance operational costs, improve manufacturing efficiency, rectify distribution network imbalances, make proactive decisions, and efficiently fulfil customer demands.

Christer Liden, CEO of Optimity says, “Our depth in some of the most complex consumer goods industries like bakery, ready-made meals, protein production and industrial manufacturing complements the vast understanding of consumer demand that RELEX has, based on their impressive expertise managing more than $700B of demand in grocery alone.”

“We are thrilled to join the RELEX team and further optimise the consumer goods value chain together,” adds Liden.

Brief about RELEX

Founded in 2005 by supply chain scientists Mikko Kärkkäinen, Johanna Småros, and Michael Falck, RELEX aimed to enhance the efficiency and adaptability of the consumer goods value chain.

Frustrated by waste in retail, wholesale, and manufacturing operations, the founders believed data and intelligent algorithms could drive significant improvements.

Today, their supply chain and retail planning platform RELEX Solutions empowers retailers and consumer brands to achieve profitable growth by enhancing customer satisfaction and minimising operational costs.

Through its unified supply chain and retail planning platform, the company enable alignment and optimisation of demand, merchandising, supply chain, and operations planning. This results in product availability, increased sales, improved sustainability, and optimal returns on investment in inventory, space, workforce, and capacity.

The company’s clients include leading brands like Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Stokke, Rite Aid, Sprouts Farmers Market, AutoZone, and PetSmart.
