Munich-based Siemens AG announced on Tuesday, August 22, that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Heliox, a Netherlands-based company that offers fast charging technology for electric buses, truck fleets, and passenger vehicles.

Heliox’s smart energy management solutions are tailored and scalable within a fast-changing e-mobility landscape. Their aim is to make seamless charging the standard for electric vehicles, transforming the way we power our daily lives towards a more sustainable future.

Founded in 2009, Heliox claims to be a leading provider of fast charging systems for public transport, e-trucks, marine, mining, and port equipment.

In 2017, Heliox installed one of Europe’s first and largest rapid charging networks for the e-bus fleet in Eindhoven. And over the past two years, the company has created ‘model city’ energy ecosystems around the world in Den Bosch, the Netherlands, Glasgow, Scotland and Montgomery County, Maryland (US).

The company is headquartered in the Netherlands with a local presence in Germany, Sweden, the UK, Italy, Spain and the US.

Aim of the acquisition

This acquisition will enhance Siemens’ eMobility charging offerings by adding DC fast charging solutions for electric buses and trucks, while also expanding its market reach in Europe and North America. The deal also aims to improve Siemens’ capabilities in power electronics.

Matthias Rebellius, member of the managing board of Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure, says, “This is an important milestone that adds value to our fast-growing eMobility charging business. In addition to expanding our offering, we see digitalisation and software potential with regard to energy and depot management and services.”

Siemens eMobility, a part of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, offers IoT-enabled hardware, software and services for AC and DC charging from 11 to 300 kW for various applications.

They are acquiring Heliox from private equity firm Waterland and employee shareholders. Heliox employs around 330 people.
