Vienna-based Speedinvest, Europe’s most active early-stage investors, announced on Friday that its General Partner Mathias Ockenfels is bidding farewell to the company after a seven-year tenure.

During his tenure, Mathias spearheaded pivotal initiatives, including establishing the Berlin office in 2017 and the rapid expansion of the Marketplaces & Consumer investment team to Munich and London.

He also played a crucial role in setting up two dedicated funds for digital marketplace models, raising over €100M in capital and investing in more than 70 portfolio companies.

Additionally, Mathias led Speedinvest in some of the successful investments in companies such as TIER Mobility, CoachHub, Schüttflix, and Planetly, as well as the creation of The Marketplace Conference, a highly successful annual event in the European startup ecosystem.

“On behalf of the entire team, I would like to personally thank Mathias for his extraordinary and immeasurable contributions to building and establishing Speedinvest. Without him, we would not be the VC we are today, and we are especially grateful for the role he played in establishing our now widely respected and successful vertically-focused investment model.  His vision and leadership have been instrumental in our achievements, and we are committed to building upon the strong foundation he helped establish,” says Oliver Holle.

However, Mathias will continue to extend his support to portfolio companies and marketplace funds following a brief paternity leave, confirms Oliver.
