Last update:

Startup Lab Rooms has acquired Canal House, which is a 17th-century property in Amsterdam’s Nieuwe Keizersgracht. The new location in Amsterdam’s city centre builds on the company’s mission to help businesses unleash their creativity and break people out of the ‘boring corporate world’.

Since its inception, Lab Rooms has partnered with The Student Hotel to run its sessions. This week, with the opening of the Lab Rooms Canal House, the team are stepping further outside of the box.

Martijn Boomsma, the co-founder and CEO of Lab Rooms, said, “Amsterdam is, and has always been, about innovation. The canal house is a throwback to the past, but what we’re doing inside is all about the new. By opening our door, and saying “welcome home” we invite people to talk frankly, honestly and openly with one another. These are all parts of our Dutch DNA, and we want to provide everyone—individuals and companies—with this experience.”

Lab Rooms – thinking out the box

Lab Rooms offers single or multi-day rejuvenating sessions for the human resources of corporate organisations in a sanguine atmosphere. These sessions help to enhance employee efficiency by eliminating the interpersonal barriers in the teams. Also, Lab Rooms’ sessions help recognise and encourage individual potentials with expert guidance.

Co-founder, Femke Storm said, “We want to underscore the fact that the personal is professional. There’s something magical that happens when employees are taken out of their corporate environment and ushered into a home, not unlike their own. In a safe place, walls come down, and that’s when trust, creativity and collaboration begins.”

The Amsterdam-based startup was initiated by Martijn Boomsma and Femke Storm in 2016. In the beginning, it has collaborated with The Student Hotel for offering its sessions. And now, apart from the Netherlands, Lab Rooms maintains offices in Italy and Dubai. In 2018 itself, the startup carried out more than 250 sessions for clients including WWF, KLM and AkzoNobel.
