Based out of Water Campus in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, Hydraloop has won Best of Innovation in Sustainability, Eco-Design, and Smart Energy at CES 2020 in Las Vegas. The Water Campus is the Dutch meeting point of the water technology sector, and Leeuwarden is named as a United Nations Innovating City.

For the uninitiated, Hydraloop is a compact and game-changing residential water recycle system. As per the company claims, it recycles 85% of all domestic water used by cleaning & disinfecting shower, bath & washing machine water so that it can be reused for toilet flushing, washing machine, garden, or pool.

Hydraloo’s recycle system is affordable, easy to use, low in maintenance, and doesn’t compromise convenience or personal hygiene. According to the CES website, Hydraloop:

  • Reduces water consumption by 45%
  • Reduces sewage emission with 45%
  • Reduces carbon footprint with 6%
  • Reduces energy consumption by 600kWh* (in countries with cooler winter climates/* on the basis of the 4-person family), and
  • Reduces your water & energy bills

The in-house recycling system has been created with its own unique and patented water treatment technology. The treatment system combines five technologies; Sedimentation, Flotation, Dissolved Air Flotation, Foam fractionation, and an Aerobic Bioreactor. The 6th technology, which is the final treatment, is disinfection using UV light.

The domestic water recycling unit has many safety system checks, 24/7, where all the essential components within the Hydraloop system are monitored, and in case of abnormal behavior of a component, the Hydraloop automatically switches to back-up water (mains or rainwater) and sends a caution message to you and your installer.

At present, the product is available in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. It’s worth mentioning that US delivery will start in H2, 2020.
