Well, you don’t require a doctor or scientist to advise you that good night’s sleep is important to your health and wellbeing. In fact, it is as critical as eating healthy and exercising.

Natural sleeping pattern compromised!

Since the penetration of technology in our life, our natural sleep patterns have been compromised. Having said that, people are now sleeping less than they did in the past, and sleep quality has deteriorated as well.

Philips’ SmartSleep

In a bid to solve this problem, Philips, a Dutch multinational technology company has come up with a new headband at IFA 2018, which it claims can help the users get a good night’s sleep. Dubbed as SmartSleep, it helps the users to enhance the depth and duration of deep sleep.

The IFA or Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin is one of the oldest and leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances that happens every year in Berlin, Germany. In fact, it is the main meeting place for key retailers, buyers, and experts from the industry and the media to connect across the world.

How does it work?

Philips’ SmartSleep uses two small sensors and unique algorithms that identify an individual’s different sleep stages during the night. When it detects deep sleep periods, it will play tones in a repeating pattern that matches the rise and fall of your brain activity. The statistics regarding your sleep are logged in the app and provides tips and advice on how to get the best possible night’s sleep.

Slow wave sleep boosts energy levels

According to the report, nearly 40 percent of people aged 25 – 54 get less than the recommended seven hours of sleep per night, reported to result in difficulty being fully alert the next day.

Moreover, the deep, or slow wave, sleep plays a critical role in resetting the brain to be more alert and focused, and the people who experience high-quality slow wave sleep are more alert during the day, with higher daytime energy levels.

Worked closely with Scientific Advisory Board

As per the company claims, almost 70 percent of users reported feeling less tired and scored better during memory and motor skill tests. In the process of making SmartSleep, the company has worked closely with Sleep Scientific Advisory Board consists of reputed sleep physicians, scientists, and clinicians.

Now in Germany!

After the U.S. market, the company has introduced it to the German market. Additionally, it will soon be powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to further enhance its adaptive personalized user experience. However, the existing users in the US and all new users in Germany will benefit from this update, which is expected to be released later this year.

Single charge can take you through 3 nights.

Talking about the battery, the company claimed that one can get use it to get 2-3 nights sleep out of single charge. It is rechargeable and can be done so through USB. It’s worth mentioning that it comes in two sizes — medium and large. Moving on to the availability, the Philips SmartSleep, at present, available in the US and retails around €342 ($399). Having said that, then prices for Europe are confirmed yet

Having said that, wearing a headband strap every night to drift off to sleep is not a really good idea. At present, technology is a part of our life in each and every aspects. Even though there are natural ways to sleep better, do we really need a device like SleepSmart to control our sleep as well? Do let us know your opinion in the comment section below.
