Last update:

‘The Ethical Butcher’, UK-based startup specialised in the ethical meat industry has exceeded their target raise of £350,000 (nearly €407,500) securing the backing of 242 investors on Crowdcube crowdfunding campaign.

The Ethical Butcher will use this fund to carry out its plans of creating an innovative ethical meat brand, which aims to change the way we think about buying meat in the UK. This venture is called an online craft beef service and will work with farmers to produce carbon negative meat.

Founded in 2018 by Farshad Kazemian, The Ethical Butcher is based out of London and hopes to sustain the values and practices and satisfy the increasing demand for ethically produced and environmentally conscious meat.

One of the major investments of £36,000 (approximately €42,000) came from Chris Oglesby, the CEO of Bruntwood. Regarding this, Kazemian said, “I am very excited and humbled to all of our investors and supporters. Having Chris Oglesby on board as an investor is especially encouraging. We share the same values and we’re really excited to have his support.”

The Ethical Butcher aims to disrupt the meat industry positively by giving households access to the meat that is produced in the most ethical way. It provides access to the cut-to-order next day delivery service. All products are fully traceable and the company will maintain transparency. Each box will also come with meat tasting notes.

Focus on R&D

A segment of generated profit will be channelled back into its R&D so that The Ethical Butcher farmers are trained in Holistic Management. This is a method of farming letting animals live in harmony in a bigger ecosystem, by building new soil and bring fertility to the damaged farmland. With Holistic Management, it is possible to achieve carbon negative meat production.

- A message from our partner -

Training in Holistic Management will help farmers start a full bio-diversity audit of their farmland and stay certified. The bio-diversity of the land should increase on a yearly basis. Only those farmers who meet the standards of sustainable practices will be approached by The Ethical Butcher supply chain to source meat.
