Amsterdam-based VanMoof, an e-bike manufacturer, on Monday, announced a global initiative to help riders who ordered a bike before the bankruptcy and never received it.
The company offers a €1000 / $1000 / £850 discount code off a VanMoof S5, A5, or future product to riders affected by this issue.
Due to the old VanMoof’s bankruptcy, many bike orders were never delivered to customers.
The new VanMoof bought by McLaren Applied in September 2023 – does not have access to the money riders paid for these bikes and isn’t legally required to solve this issue.
However, the newly-owned VanMoof is focused on supporting this group of riders as much as possible.
Eliott Wertheimer, VanMoof’s Co-CEO, says, “Since day one, we made it our mission to get riders back on the road. For our existing riders, that meant building a network of service partners and supplying them with spare parts. While this effort is ongoing, we also want to help those who were let down by the old company and get them riding.”
To support riders in short and long-term
VanMoof has launched an initiative to support its riders in the short term and for the future.
The company has established a network of over 120 service partners across Europe and the UK, kickstarted its supply chain for spare parts, enhanced its software architecture, improved quality checks and safety standards, and made refinements to the VanMoof S5 & A5 before resuming sales.
Additionally, the brand is working on developing new e-mobility products which are expected to be launched in 2025. You can find more information about VanMoof on their website.
“From conversations we’ve had with our community, we hear how frustrating the situation has been for customers who didn’t receive the bikes they ordered from the old VanMoof.” Wertheimer continues, “While we’re aware that our gesture does not constitute a full resolution on its own, we hope it makes a difference.”
How to apply?
VanMoof customers affected by this issue can apply for a discount code here.
All applications will be assessed and everyone will receive a response before the end of the year.
The discount codes will be valid until 31 December 2027 and are tied to the email addresses of those who made the original purchase.
VanMoof Archives
The announcement comes a few months after the Dutch company created VanMoof Archives, a space to publish step-by-step guides, technical drawings, and repair manuals for its bikes.
The archives will offer riders to understand the workings of their bikes, aid in troubleshooting, and provide solutions.
Currently, this space features materials for the Electrified VanMoof S2 & X2 models, which originally went on sale in 2018, and older bikes.
