Utrecht-based ViCentra, the company behind Kaleido, has closed an $85M (nearly €72M) Series D funding round. The Dutch company develops and manufactures the Kaleido insulin patch pump system, an alternative to traditional insulin pumps.
The round was led by Innovation Industries with participation from existing investors Partners in Equity, Invest-NL, EQT Life Sciences, and Health Innovations.
Caaj Greebe, Partner at Innovation Industries, says, “ViCentra is redefining insulin pump therapy with a platform that truly centers the user experience – combining clinical performance with design simplicity and wearability.”
“At Innovation Industries, we invest in pioneering companies that blend world-class technology with clear commercial potential. ViCentra exemplifies this by delivering a next-generation system addressing the urgent need for better treatment options in diabetes care.”
“We’re proud to lead this investment round and partner with Tom and the team as they deepen and expand their presence in Europe and prepare for US entry.”
What does Kaleido offer?
Kaleido is a new type of insulin patch pump. Unlike traditional insulin pumps, it is designed to function more like personal technology. It is intended to allow people with diabetes to manage insulin therapy while also controlling how and where they wear the device.
The device works with Diabeloop’s automated insulin delivery algorithms, called DBLG1 and DBLG2. These algorithms control insulin delivery based on real-time glucose readings. The pump is compatible with the Dexcom continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor, which provides glucose data to guide insulin delivery.
Users can choose from ten different aluminium shells for the pump. This allows them to select how the device looks and fits into their daily life while still performing insulin delivery.
ViCentra, the company behind Kaleido, has started selling the pump in Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Initial demand was higher than expected. To meet growing demand and expand operations, the company secured additional financing.
Kaleido aims to offer people with diabetes a way to manage insulin therapy with flexibility in usage and integration with automated insulin delivery systems.
Capital utilisation
ViCentra will use the funds to support its manufacturing scale-up, the European launch of the next-generation Kaleido 2 patch pump, and preparations for entry into the US market.
Tom Arnold, CEO at ViCentra, says, “Kaleido is a true disruptor — small, discreet, featherlight, and beautifully designed. It empowers people with diabetes by offering a more personal and distinctive choice in both function and style. Built with empathy and precision, it honours those who live with diabetes every day.”
“With this funding, we can now meet surging European demand and fast-track our entry into the U.S. market. This is a pivotal moment — for ViCentra, and for the community we serve.”
ViCentra will attend the 61st European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) Annual Meeting in Vienna (September 15–19, 2025) to engage with clinicians, investors, and partners on insulin delivery developments and strategic opportunities.
