5G is catching up so fast in part of the world!
For the uninitiated, 5G is the next generation of mobile internet connectivity that offers faster speeds and more reliable connections on smartphones and other devices.
5G: Download Full HD film in 3 minutes!
With the mix of cutting edge technology, 5G provides connections that are multitudes faster than current connections, with average download speeds of around 1GBps. In fact,5G is one of the most significant things to happen to wireless networking over the years.
While all of the major carriers across the globe are hard at work on their 5G strategy, Vodafone UK has launched their 5G networks in seven UK cities, including Cardiff, London, Manchester and Glasgow. The other three are — Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool.
12 cities to get 5G later this year!
In addition to it, twelve additional towns and cities will follow later this year – Birkenhead, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Guildford, Newbury, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Reading, Southampton, Stoke-on-Trent, Warrington and Wolverhampton.
It’s worth mentioning that Vodafone is the first UK provider to offer 5G roaming in Germany, Spain and Italy. To make use of the faster network connection, you will need to have 5G ready plan and 5G compatible phone.
According to Vodafone UK, “You’ll need a 5G ready plan and a 5G phone to connect to the Vodafone 5G network. If you buy a 5G phone you won’t need a new 5G SIM. Some 5G phones will need a software update to get 5G once the network is live. You’ll also need to be in an area that has 5G coverage.”
5G Ready smartphones!
Right now there are two devices available to buy at Vodafone and are compatible with their 5G network — Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G.
Tariff plans
Vodafone is offering three pricing options for SIM-only:
- Unlimited Max: £30 per month, unlimited mobile access at speeds as fast as the device and the network will allow.
- Vodafone Unlimited: £26 per month and offers speeds of up to 10 Mbps (megabits per second)
- Vodafone Unlimited Lite: £23 per month and offers speeds of up to 2 Mbps
Business director of Vodafone UK, Anne Sheehan, said:
5G is a game-changer for the economy and UK businesses. We are committed to helping our customers take advantage of this technology by making it widely available in the UK and through roaming. We want to help UK businesses become global leaders and 5G will play an important role in achieving that aim.
Despite the controversy, UK’s mobile operators use Huawei’s equipment for 5G at present. However, if banned in the future, all the network operators would be forced to back out.
