Amsterdam-based Kees de Boekhouder, a company that claims to be the market leader in accounting for the self-employed and small entrepreneurs in the Netherlands, announced on Tuesday that it has entered into a strategic partnership with investment company Vortex Capital Partners

Amsterdam-based Vortex Capital’s investment supports the company’s ambition to further develop its position into a national go-to brand for entrepreneurs.

According to a joint statement by Vortex and Kees de Boekhouder, “The accounting market is characterised by sub-optimal solutions for entrepreneurs, where the company is usually not fully and insufficiently unburdened. Online accounting programs do not provide personal accounting support to self-employed and small business owners. Conversely, accountants often work with complex accounting software that is not suitable for the simple administration of self-employed persons and small entrepreneurs. Moreover, small entrepreneurs experience the rates of accountants as opaque and the jargon does not contribute to the transparency of the accounting process.”

Accounting for freelancers and small business owners

Founded in 2009 by Kees Monteban and Marlou ter Berg, Kees de Boekhouder offers an all-in-one software solution and the service of a personal accountant for freelancers and small entrepreneurs. In its own words, this makes the company “one of the few players that can fully meet entrepreneurial needs.”

The accountants understand the issues of the self-employed and give clear advice. The company says it has grown organically over the past few years and serves more than 6,500 customers now.

Founder Kees Monteban says, “We believe that Kees de Boekhouder offers a solution for the administrative challenges that freelancers and small entrepreneurs throughout the Netherlands struggle with. This also reflects in customer satisfaction. Vortex’s expertise in tech, coupled with entrepreneurial experience, contributes to making this solution available nationwide. We look forward to making this happen together with Vortex and our team.”
