Last update:

Munich-based Wirelane, a full-service provider in the field of electric mobility, announced on Tuesday, August 22, that it has acquired Köln-based On Charge GmbH and has also raised €11M as part of a Series B expansion round of funding.

On Charge is now trading as Wirelane Public Charging Germany GmbH.

On Charge plans and builds public charging stations throughout Germany at the request of citizens in order to enable electric car drivers without their own parking space or garage direct access to a charging infrastructure.

Constantin Schwaab, CEO of Wirelane, says, “With the 100 per cent takeover of On Charge GmbH, we are further expanding our charging offering and creating charging infrastructure where people live.”

The investors in Wirelane’s latest funding include both existing investors and CD-Venture, the holding company of Dirk Wilken and Christoph Boehringer.

“With the Series B expansion, we can continue our growth course to become one of the leading providers of charging infrastructure solutions in Germany,” adds Schwaab.

Brief about On Charge and the acquisition

“A future without emissions, in which the next generation can grow up healthy” is the vision of On Charge, the specialist for public charging.

On Charge is focused on establishing charging stations in urban residential regions all across Germany with the aim of facilitating the widespread adoption of electromobility. The company claims their commitment to promoting electromobility remains steadfast each day, guided by their core principles.

“We are Germany’s first company to set up charging stations in public areas at the request of citizens in order to promote the energy transition on a daily basis,” says the company.

This acquisition aims to expand Wirelane’s charging infrastructure across Germany, particularly in urban residential areas. By the end of 2023, Wirelane plans to install around 3,000 charging points in over 450 municipalities, providing an accessible charging network for EV users.

Develop, plan, install and operate charging infrastructure

Founded in 2016, Wirelane aims to promote sustainable mobility to empower individuals towards a cleaner future. The company designs solutions for all aspects of charging infrastructure, encompassing construction, operation, and marketing.

Wirelane offers a complete package of services, including advanced charging technology, a digital management platform, billing services, and comprehensive installation and operation support.

“Charging is a fundamental right – like unrestricted access to the internet. Possible for everyone, anytime, anywhere. At least that’s how it should be,” says Schwaab.

Wirelane’s CEO, Constantin Schwaab, is an electric car enthusiast himself. He understands that establishing charging infrastructure is not just a business venture but a crucial step in the transition to renewable energy-based mobility.

The company has gained recognition for its mobility and charging solutions, attracting companies like Motel One Group, Leonardo Hotels, Prizeotel, Halbersbacher Hospitality Group, and Union Investment from the hotel and real estate industries.

Wirelane is also a preferred choice for cities and municipalities seeking to set up public charging infrastructure.
