Last update:

Irish micro-mobility startup Zipp Mobility announced its plans to launch a new e-scooter service in the country as soon as the new e-scooter legislation is passed. The startup will be initiating a public shared e-scooter scheme on the island of Ireland in the coming months.

Operates in 3 UK locations

Notably, Zipp Mobility revealed plans for its new e-scooter service following the successful completion of €1.1M seed funding round. This includes the €250k investment from Enterprise Ireland. The company has already launched its e-scooter operations in three locations in the UK, namely Aylesbury, Taunton, and High Wycombe and is in plans to grow its team of 20 in Ireland and the UK.

Currently, Zipp Mobility operates a fleet of 450 e-scooters in the UK. In the coming months, the company expects to increase its fleet to 600 units. As per the company, in the last two months, its customers used its e-scooters to complete over 30,000 journeys spanning across 85,000 km.

Charlie Gleeson, CEO and Founder, Zipp Mobility said, “This last year has been a very successful one for the company and we are currently operating in more UK locations than some of the big industry players, which is a great achievement for a young Irish start-up such as Zipp. With new e-scooter legislation set to be passed in Ireland earlier this year our plan for 2021 includes completing a Series A funding round and launching our service across the country creating at least 30 new jobs in the process.”

Safe option during the pandemic

During the pandemic crisis, all of Zipp e-scooters were made safe for its customers. The company claims to have equipped its fleet with anti-viral handlebar wraps that kill 99.98% of coronaviruses, thereby eliminating the COVID-19 transmission risk. Zipp also implemented a strict daily disinfection regime for its e-scooters.

The sustainable fleet of electric vehicles

Zipp Mobility is one of the companies that work with the commitment to achieve sustainability. The company operates completely in-house and uses only electric vehicles in its fleet, which are claimed to be ten times more energy-efficient. Notably, the e-scooter operator implements green operations such as recycling and reusing all parts of e-scooters that are beyond repair.
