9 great European cloud companies to work for

We’re bang slap in the middle of a time when things may seem a bit shaky in the jobs market, particularly in the tech sector – especially if media reports are anything to go by. European unicorns ​​Gorillas laid off 300 employees at its headquarters, and the payments giant Klarna announced it was to let go 10% of its employees globally as well.

Things are still broadly positive in Europe’s jobs market, however, according to the European Labour Market Barometer. “European labour markets are still holding their own,” says Enzo Weber, head of forecast at the Institute for Employment Research. 

If you are looking for a new role this year, one area that is particularly robust is the cloud sector. This is in large part thanks to the pandemic, because there has been a huge leap past previous projections for where companies thought they needed to be in terms of their adoption of cloud computing services. 

Gartner says that thanks to hybrid working, organisations are moving away from desktops and other physical in-office tools and looking instead at solutions such as Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS). The company also says that worldwide end-user spending on public cloud services is forecast to grow 20.4% in 2022 to $494.7 billion, up from $410.9 billion in 2021. Next year, it predicts that end-user spending will reach nearly $600 billion.

That’s good news both for those already in the sector, and for those who would like to make a move from other areas of the tech world. It’s also positive for Europe’s burgeoning unicorn scene, or companies with a valuation of $1 billion without being listed on the stock market, many of which are engaged in cloud services.

Together with the IT team, you will be responsible for implementation and management of Microsoft cloud infrastructure, and you will ensure that the organisation is aware of the innovations within cloud technology. Additionally you’ll be responsible for the roadmap related to the developments for Microsoft cloud infrastructure, and will implement projects together with the IT platform team. You will need three to five years’ experience, a broad knowledge of Microsoft products along with a basic knowledge of and interest in Agile/Scrum DevOps and basic knowledge of Infrastructure-as-code.
