Last update:

In today’s digital world, developing a killer product or service isn’t just enough.

You need the right voices backing your story, and that’s where public relations agencies step in.

PR has become the influential machine behind many of the world’s fastest-growing tech companies.

They help them navigate media landscapes, build brand trust, and stay ahead in an ever-evolving digital climate.

PR in the AI era

But the rules of the game are changing fast. AI is changing not just the way stories are told, but also how they are consumed, frequently distorted. In light of this shift, the role of PR has become increasingly crucial.

Valentina Drofa, founder and CEO of Drofa Comms, explains to Silicon Canals, “AI has transformed how stories are shared and consumed, but it has also made trust harder to earn and easier to lose. While AI tools can flood the media space with noise and synthetic content, PR rooted in strategy and substance can shape perception. It can ensure that your message is not only heard but also understood and trusted, helping foster your company’s long-term growth.”

Benjamin Webb, Founder and MD at Deliberate PR, adds, “We’re seeing major media articles we’ve placed—like those in The Guardian, BBC, and Wired—showing up in ChatGPT results. That kind of visibility only comes from smart, deliberate PR.”

According to recent data, the global PR industry is expected to grow from $106.48B in 2024 to $112.98B in 2025, driven by a strong media ecosystem, crisis communications, and growing demand for reputation management and community engagement

Real PR vs synthetic buzz

These days, it’s easy to flood the internet with posts and fake buzz. But getting real attention? That’s a whole different game. That’s where good PR makes all the difference.

Valentina puts it, AI-generated content may create the illusion of popularity, but a strong PR agency knows to focus on substance over empty hype when it comes to messaging. Media, investors, and consumers are becoming increasingly good at spotting what’s genuine and tailored.”

According to Valentina, the best results come from things like expert commentary, interviews with company leaders, and coverage based on real company achievements, not quick social posts anyone can write with a tool.

Benjamin adds that AI can boost PR when used the right way.

“Whilst the editorial media might be under threat from various places – AI or otherwise – this is a continuation of a 25-year trend of digital impacting news. If anything, in an era of fake hype, the trustworthiness and authority of credible news outlets have only become enhanced,” he says.

How can the right PR agency help?

The right team doesn’t just take orders—they help shape the message.

“A proper PR team aligns messaging with your actual growth stage,” says Valentina. “Whether it’s a funding round or market entry, timing shapes the narrative.”

Benjamin says that real results come from thinking like a journalist. Good PR is all about news, not silly stunts or stupid surveys, and never spamming journalists.”

By advising on what makes a story newsworthy, preparing founders for interviews, and building media relationships over time, the right agency helps turn chaotic communication into a strategic asset that supports your long-term business goals.

Where tech startups go wrong with PR

Even the best ideas can fall flat if they’re poorly communicated. And according to both, Benjamin and Valentina, tech startups are still making the same avoidable mistakes when it comes to PR.

“One of the biggest missteps is jumping into PR without a clear story to tell,” says Valentina. “They focus on product specs or buzzwords, forgetting that the media wants to understand the bigger picture—problem-solving, market fit, and the team.”

Benjamin takes it a step further, saying, “They try and mimic listed companies by using paid-for ‘news’ wires to spam journalists, with no understanding that the media requires exclusivity and that the majority of such announcements get ignored by all.”

He also warns about ignoring localisation. “They fail to appreciate the need to localise to the market that they are trying to enter. For example, the UK retail landscape is littered with US companies which launched and then retreated: failure stemming from recycling unsuitable marketing strategies from home, or alienating British journalists by applying heavy-handed, overly-commercial messaging.”

“Conversely, many European startups fail to understand just how their place of origin is a massive USP in the UK. We’ve helped many Nordic and German firms connect with British journalists by aligning their story with regional values the UK respects—like trust, quality, and innovation,” adds Benjamin.

Let’s zoom in on the UK

This brings us to the UK, one of the world’s leading startup ecosystems and home to Europe’s premier tech hub, London. Apart from the nation’s capital, cities like Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh, Cambridge, Glasgow, Belfast, and Newcastle upon Tyne are also emerging as major tech hubs.

Furthermore, some of the most impactful storytelling is taking place right now in the UK.

From fintech to healthtech, startups are shaping global markets. And behind many of these rising stars are smart PR agencies making sure the right narratives reach the right people at the right time.

So, if you’re a founder preparing for a major funding round, launching into the UK market, or seeking broader European visibility, choosing the right PR partner can be a game-changer.

In this guide, we’ve handpicked the top UK tech PR agencies to watch in 2025. These firms are shaping narratives, building reputations, and driving measurable impact not just in one of the world’s most competitive tech ecosystems, but across Europe. Let’s dive in.
